group dynamicsSlide2
All groups experience various stages of development, whether it’s your staff group or your community. Experience
and research has shown that groups move through predictable stages that are both chronological and developmental. This process can be seen in all sorts of groups: both inside and outside the workplace. Each
member of a team, if they are aware of the natural stages of a group, can help
the entire team ride the wave of group development. And, your experience riding through the stages with your residents and your RA/PM teams will serve you as you enter and exit other group dynamics throughout your leadership career on campus, and beyond.

how can you help?Leadership of teams requires an ability to diagnose the stage of development of teams, and make appropriate interventions
that move the team forward. That can be difficult with all of the changes and tasks that occur in our department. The important thing to remember that in the Senior Student Staff role that is a shared responsibility with the RD to help in the overall development of the group. The following tactics are ways to help in moving group through the various stages outline in Tuckman’s model.Slide9
