Purpose, Focus, and Organization 4 Example of introduction:We all know the all-too-familiar scene: The “popular” kid in high school sits at the back of the classroom and picks on the “nerdy” kid sitting at the front paying attention and taking notes. When watching this disturbing portrayal of “being cool”, I can’t help but to think, “You know what? That kid will probably be that jerks boss someday.” How popular, pretty, or athletic you are in high school does not determine how successful or happy you will be in the future. Hard work, setting goals, and determination are the essential keys to getting where you want to be after high school.

Purpose, Focus, and Organization 4 Example of conclusion: “The past is fiction”, writes philosopher William Burroughs, and that couldn’t be more true. People need to remember that success is earned, not given. Those “popular” kids in high school, the “winners”, the ones with the pretty smiles and nice bodies, they could very well be serving you burgers in the future! Never give up hope in high school, always work hard, set goals for yourself, and stay determined. You could be the biggest loser in high school and come out being happier than ever in your career.

Evidence and Elaboration 4 Example body paragraph: You can change your self-image in many different ways, but they all require the same basic things to make it work. All your past challenges have given you skills on problem solving whether you realize it or not. You need to know how to use those skills to your advantage. You also need to be motivated. If you want something to happen you need to be determined at making it happen and not give up. Wightman’s example was, ”I thought about numerous situations where I could have despaired, regressed, given up and how I hadn’t, though others had, and I wondered why I was different, and had more luck, less guilt.”
