1. Figure 4Figure 4. . Schematic diagram on a plausible evolutionary pathway of the W14 Mycobacterium tuberculosis group, compared with the New York City W-MDR (4). All members of the W14 group lineage have single mutation on codon 43 of the rpsL target gene associated with high levels of streptomycin resistance (STRR). Note that isoniazid-resistant (INHR) W23 and W14 branches have a distinct katG mutation. The W23 katG substitution on codon 315 is found on the same codon as in the W-MDR index strain but involves a different nucleotide; the W14 katG insertion on codon 283 has not been previously reported.
