A Faculty Fellowship for Faculty Teaching Online The Online Teaching Fellows at SUNY Cortland Katherine Graham & Dakin Burdick, Facilitators Introductions Katherine Graham (Economics) Dakin Burdick (Institute for College Teaching) Kent Johnson (Anthropology) Gregory Phelan (Chemistry) Katarina Silvestri (Literacy) Helena Baert (Physical Education) Shena Salvato (Modern Languages) Funding & Purpose SUNY Cortland received SUNY Performance Improvement Funds (PIF) to start the Institute for College Teaching. One of the key initiatives of the first year was the establishment of the Online Teaching Fellows to enhance online teaching on campus. The 2019 Online Fellows aimed to build on the work of the 2017 Online Fellows funded by the Provost's Office. The 2017 Fellows began campus work on online instruction; the 2019 Fellows aimed to advance that further. Selection of the Fellows Fellows were selected through recommendations by the Deans, who suggested faculty who had taught online for two years or more, and who were known for their technological prowess. Format Each fellow agreed to: Design or redesign an online course for submission to Blackboard’s Exemplary Course Program (ECP), which is an annual review of submitted courses that identifies the best course designs of the year in Blackboard (https://tinyurl.com/y5dpeeku). Participate in a Blackboard community page specifically created for the Fellows. Discuss monthly readings in online discussion forums. Faculty retained full rights to their course content and were granted a stipend of $750 per semester for two semesters. They also had the opportunity to take week-long workshops from the Online Learning Consortium for free (the ICT had purchased a book of 10 tickets for the workshops, which were all used). The list of readings grew into a bibliography. Lisa Czirr (Librarian) suggested creating a Zotero database instead, and that led to the creation of the Bibliography of College Teaching (https://tinyurl.com/yyogqrcu), which now has over 2,000 entries.
