CHESTERTON ATHLETICS CORE VALUES 1. WE WORK HARD.
We embody the “indefatigable” human spirit and never stop pushing ourselves.
Everyday is a tryout
2. WE CHOOSE TO BE POSITIVE AND EMBRACE ADVERSITY WITH A STOIC INTENSITY.
Nothing can depress or upset us – no mood swings are negative circumstances can affect us – we are a “rock”.
Tough times and opposition makes us stronger, so we love it
We don’t freak out, get too down, or pout for mistakes or when bad situations happen
We control the controllables
3. WHEN WE DON’T PLAY AS MUCH AS WE WOULD LIKE, WE ARE NOBLE AND STILL SUPPORT OUR TEAM.
We are noble, self-sacrificing, generous – placing the team above ourselves
We support our teammates because we want them to succeed
We cheer from the sidelines
CHESTERTON ATHLETICS CORE VALUES 4. WE PLAY AND CARE FOR EACH OTHER AS TEAMMATES AND HUMAN BEINGS
We avoid negative comments and body language toward other teammates
We help our teammates through drills no matter if they are our position or younger; we help our Trojan teammates through tough situations
5. WE DON’T WHINE OR COMPLAIN BECAUSE WE ARE TOUGH
We handle any situation and never complain on or off the athletic arena
We embrace tough situations because they will make us better
Challenges are opportunities
6. WE ARE WELL LED
We treat everyone around us with respect
We make those around us better
We are less concerned about popularity and more concerned about holding everyone to their highest standard and driving our teammates toward their potential.
CHESTERTON ATHLETICS PHILOSOPHY Chesterton High School considers participation in athletics to be an integral part of the overall educational experience. Athletics provides opportunities for physical, mental, emotional and social development. The competition of athletics is viewed as a valuable experience because it challenges each student athlete to strive for excellence, helps each student athlete discover their physical limits, and requires each student athlete to work cooperatively as a member of a team. While winning is a natural goal in the pursuit of excellence, the principles of good sportsmanship and enjoyment of competition always take precedence and enhances the educational value of all contests.
Respect the decisions made by officials and learn the rules of the game to better understand their decisions
Participate in positive cheers and refrain from encouraging those who take away from the spirit of the contest.
Respect and support the task of the coaches.
