Communication Material on Adult Education & Lifelong Learning NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY-2020 PREPARED BY: MANAS CHANDRA ROUT Sr. Teacher Educator DIET Angul, Chhendipda, Odisha ADULT EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO NEP 2020 TARGET OF 100% LITERACY BY 2030 Need of Adult Education: Foundational literacy and numeracy is an urgent and necessary prerequisite to learning. The opportunity to attain foundational literacy, obtain an education and pursue a livelihood must be viewed as basic rights of every citizen. At the level of society and the nation, literacy and basic education are the key factor to enhance the success. There is high correlation between literacy rate and per capita GDP. Being a non-literate member of a community an individual has innumerable disadvantages. This advantages are the outcomes to be achieved through adoption of innovative major for adult education. INTIATIVES FOR ADULT EDUCATION: NEP 2020 ADULT EDUCATION ADULT EDUCATION CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK SUITABLE INFRASTRUCTURE TRAINED INSTRUCTORS / EDUCATORS PARTICIPATION OF COMMUNITY MEMBER AVAILABILITY & ACCESSIBILITY OF BOOKS TECHNOLOGY ADULT EDUCATION CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK: Foundational literacy & numeracy Critical life skill (financial & digital literacy, commercial skill, health care, family welfare) Vocational skill development Basic education Continuing education (courses in arts, science, culture, technology, sports & recreation SUITABLE INFRASTRUCTURE: Use of schools / school complex and public library Inclusion of adult education centers with HEIs & vocational training centers TRAINED INSTRUCTORS / EDUCATORS: Deliver curriculum framework to mature learner for all five types of adult education prescribed in adult education curriculum framework. Training of instructors / national, state and district level resource support institution. Correlation between state & NGO PARTICIPATION OF COMMUNITY MEMBER: Mobilization of social workers / counselors to track the dropout and non enrolled students Gather data of parents, adolescents and others interested in adult education opportunity both as learner and tutor. Establishing connection with local adult education center. Announcement and advertisement for adult education through NGO and other AVAILABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY OF BOOKS: Strengthening of libraries at school ,college and university level Modernization of public library to ensure an adequate supply of books Central and state government will take steps to ensure the availability of book for all including socio economic disadvantage and persons living in rural and remote areas. Online accessibility of books. Setting up rural libraries and reading rooms Opening mobile libraries and children's library Establishing social book clubs. TECHNOLOGY: Technology based option for adult learner. Online course , module, satellite based TV
