slide4. What’s the difference? Impact Driver Lots of power
Drives screws easily
Compact size
Low user impact
Removes Stripped Screws Drill Precise for delicate jobs
Multi Purpose
Slip Clutch for torque control
Constant torque
Fits many Accessories The main difference between a drill and an impact driver boils down to power and rotational action. Unlike drills, impact drivers are made with quick release shanks that accept all one-quarter-inch hex driver bits. Impact drivers produce lots of rotational force, capable of driving the largest wood screws in seconds.
slide5. Avoid Baggy Clothing
Loose sleeves, jewelry and hair can be a hazard when you are operating a power drill. The spinning action of a cordless drill can catch and tangle any loose objects. While operating any power tools, wear short sleeves, forgo jewelry and tie your hair back if necessary. Wear Protective Gear
Safety goggles are always a good idea when using a power drill. You may also want to use a breathing mask if the material you’re drilling produces a lot of dust or shavings. Gloves can help protect your hands, but only if they are form-fitting and not baggy. Loose gloves can get caught in the drill. Secure Your Work Piece
You don’t want the wood or metal piece you are working on to shift while you’re drilling. Clamp the work piece down or secure it in a vice before applying the power drill to it. Properly Set the Drill Bit
Make sure the drill bit is properly inserted into the chuck and tighten it firmly with the chuck key. With a loose bit, your power drill won’t make straight holes and could slip. Apply Proper Pressure to the Drill
Your power drill should do most of the work, so don’t apply too much force. If you push too hard, you the power drill can slip, or you can strain the motor. Basic Drill Safety
slide7. What are the main safety hazards of a drill press?
The main safety hazards when using a drill press are: entanglement with the rotating chuck or drilling tool, eye injuries due to flying swarf or wood chips, accidental hand or finger contact with the rotating bit and cuts from sharp edges and burrs particularly when drilling metal.
Drill Press Safety Tips:
• Secure work pieces with clamps or a drill vise to prevent spinning.
• Before starting the drill press, tighten the chuck for the drill bit or cutting tool securely, and then remove the chuck key.
• Always drill a smaller pilot hole before drilling larger-diameter holes.
• Don’t reach around or under a rotating drill bit.
• Make sure the size of the bit is equal to or smaller than the capacity of the drill press.
• Use appropriate speeds for the type and size of bit and the type of stock being drilled.
• Use a center punch to punch a drill-hole location in metal stock.
• Lock out as required to remove burrs, chips, and curls with a vacuum or brush as they accumulate (and after completing work).
slide8. What are the s for using a magnetic drilling machine? What is a Mag Drill?
A magnetic drill, mag drill for short, is a drill used to cut metal. Magnetic drills are made up from 4 key components: a magnetic base, a drill stand, a motor, and an arbor or chuck. You can use a wide variety of tooling with mag drills including annular cutters, twist drills, taps, reamers, and counter sinks. A Hougen Mag Drill will only operate with Hougen annular cutters/drill bits. They are not universal or interchangeable.
slide9. Handling of the Magnetic Drilling Machine Safely:
Improper handling of the magnetic drilling machine (magnetic drill press) increases the risk of injury!
Pay attention to the following safety instructions in order not to injure others or yourself:
► Do not wear protective gloves when the magnetic drilling machine is running. A glove can be caught by the drilling magnetic drilling machine and torn off the hand. Risk of losing one or more fingers.
► Remove loose jewelry before beginning work.
► Always switch off and unplug the magnetic drilling machine before changing tools, performing maintenance or cleaning. Wait until the magnetic drilling machine has come to a complete standstill.
► Do not put your hand into the machine while it is in operation. Remove swarf only when the magnetic drilling machine is at a standstill. Wear protective gloves when removing swarf.
► When working on scaffolding, the operator must be secured with a safety belt as the magnetic drilling machine can oscillate dangerously in the event of an interruption to the power supply.
► Check for secure clamping of the electromagnets on the substrate before every use.
► Secure the magnetic drilling machine with the safety chain supplied when working in an inclined or vertical position and during overhead work. The magnetic drilling machine could fall if the magnet is loosened, or the power fails.
► Check that the tool is tightened securely before using.
► Do not allow the connecting cable to hang over edges (trip effect).
