Mitigative Measures :
Rotation of workers to minimize exposure time
Provision of earmuffs to workers exposed to high noise areas
Use of sharp drilling bits, delivery of compressed air at optimal pressure
The equipment & machines will be maintained properly. Particular attention will be given to the silencers and mufflers.
Unnecessary idling of vehicles and mining equipment will be avoided.

slide35. Vibration due to blasting 35 The oscillation of rock particles is called Particle Velocity and its value is called Peak Particle velocity (PPV), which is measured in millimetre per second. The standards for safe limit of PPV are established by Director General of Mines Safety for safe level criteria through Circular No. 7 dated 29/8/1997. The safe level criteria PPV as mentioned in Circular No. 7 of DGMS is presented below The ground vibrations generated by blasting during the quarrying operations will be well within standards prescribed by DGMS by controlled blasting. Ground vibrations are not likely to affect the structures in the vicinity of quarrying lease area As the predicted value of 12 mm/s is less that the Threshold value of 50 mm/s, there are less chances of damage to the structures within the site and also outside the site due to ground vibration due to blasting. 1. PPV vs Scaled Distance S is a log:log plot displaying the relationship of PPV to S for the current values of k and b.
2. PPV = 14 mm/s is the recommended threshold for potential damage to structures. Mitigation measures to reduce ambient noise levels due to blasting The following control measures will be adopted to keep the ambient noise levels well below the limits:
Drilling will be carried out with the help of sharp drill bits for noise reduction.
Controlled Blasting will be carried out to minimize vibration & noise.
Earmuffs/earplugs will be provided to all operators and employees working near the machinery.
Proper maintenance, oiling and greasing of machines at regular intervals will be done to reduce generation of noise.
Plantation will be done around lease, along haul road, etc. to minimize the propagation of noise.
Periodical monitoring will be done Control of vibrations and fly rocks The blasting operations in the proposed quarrying will be carried out by adopting controlled blasting, which reduce the ground vibrations. The measures that are generally followed and currently proposed for abatement of ground vibration, air blast and fly rocks are detailed below:
No transportation of the explosives from the explosive storage magazines to priming station or the site of blasting will be done except in the daylight, and in original packing cases.
The explosives will be transported in a licensed explosive van only.

slide37. Measures proposed inside the site for blasting operations 37 Proper Controlled Blasting Methodology will be used.
Excessive charges will be avoided.
Sand bags/ mud bags will be kept on holes and will be muffled in order to prevent the flying rocks
All employees will be cleared from the blast area and moved to a safe location prior to any scheduled blasting. All equipment in the blast area will be removed or protected from flyrock damage. An accounting will be made for all employees to make sure that no one is left behind in the blast area. Arrangements will be made to ensure that no one can return back to the blast area prior to sounding an “all-clear” signal. Sirens will be used before and during blasting.
Blasting will be scheduled during a non-production shift when no one, except the blast crew is present. In addition to mitigating blasting hazards, this procedure aids in providing additional time for clearing dust, smoke, and fumes from the workings.
Seismometer will be used which will record the intensity of each and every blast in the leased area.
Explosive will not be stored in the mine since the entire Handling and blasting operations will be carried out by a licensed contractor who sell, possess and use explosives with license.
Barricades will be erected with signs in bold letters such as “Warning! Explosives in Use, Blasting Area, Do Not Enter” will be posted at all access points.
When explosive materials or initiating systems are brought to the blast site, the blast site will be attended; barricaded and posted with warning signs, such as “Danger,” “Explosives,” or “Keep Out;” or flagged against unauthorized entry
Access within the blast area will be controlled to prevent presence of livestock or unauthorized persons during blasting and until an authorized representative of the operator has reasonably determined that – (a) No unusual hazards, such as imminent slides or undetonated charges, exist; and (b) Access to and travel within the blasting area can be safely resumed. Not much impact on local transport as only 22 Nos. of dumpers/day will be required for transport of mineral from mine. The LOS value from the proposed mining will be same as earlier values. slide42. Groundwater Reuse, Maintenance and Quality Sustenance 42 The following measures will be taken up:
Periodic measurement of the water level in the bore well at Chelaganahalli Village.
Comprehensive water quality tests of both surface and groundwater will be done half yearly and will be submitted to the SEIAA during submission of compliance to the EC.

slide43. SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT 43 Building Stone Quarry of Sri C Kushal Average of 22,971 Tonns (5 Years) of solid waste will be generated and will be used by the project proponent for road construction.
Other solid waste (domestic and machinery spare parts) will be collected in separate bins near the quarry site camp. Domestic waste will be disposed in the village dumping area and machinery spare parts will be sent to recycling vendors. SOIL CONSERVATION MEASURES 12,800 cum of top soil will be generated which will be spread along the buffer zone and plantation will be done all along 7.5 m wide buffer zone..
Construction of suitable length of retention wall at the toe of the dump to arrest the suspended solids from wash-offs.
Providing catch water drains around dumps and channelize the water down the slope before every monsoon.
Periodic de-silting and clearing of trenches/drains.
Measures will be taken to arrest erosion.<br>

Every year planting of about 500 plants of Azadirachta indicia (Neem), Mangifera indica (Mavu), Ficus religiosa (Arali Mara), Aerva lanata (Bili Himdi Soppu), etc will be done.
