slide1. Judges 2:10
When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel. Israel Failed to Convey the Faith from One Generation to the Next The same is happening today!
The question is why?
slide2. The Impact Was Serious! Judges 2:11-15, 19
11 Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served the Baals;
12 and they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; and they followed other gods from among the gods of the people who were all around them, and they bowed down to them; and they provoked the LORD to anger.
13 They forsook the LORD and served Baal and the Ashtoreths
slide3. The Impact Was Serious! Judges 2:11-15, 19
14 And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel. So He delivered them into the hands of plunderers who despoiled them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.
15 Wherever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for calamity, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn to them. And they were greatly distressed.
slide4. The Impact Was Serious! Judges 2:11-15, 19
19 And it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they reverted and behaved more corruptly than their fathers, by following other gods, to serve them and bow down to them. They did not cease from their own doings nor from their stubborn way.
slide5. The Point To Be Learned Just because you know God & serve the Lord
Does not mean
Your children will know God & serve the Lord Possible / Likely
The Next Generation (Your Children)
Will Not Serve The Lord!
slide6. A Generation
That
Did Not Know God Why?
slide7. A Generation That Did Not Know God The Previous Generation Knew God
slide8. The Previous Generation Knew God Joshua 24:31
Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had known all the works of the LORD which He had done for Israel. Judges 2:7
So the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD which He had done for Israel.
slide9. The Previous Generation Knew God Joshua Knew & Saw
Moses’ assistant on the way to Sinai (Exo. 24:13; Josh 1:1)
What he saw & experienced
The plagues (Exo. 7-12)
Crossing the Red Sea (Exo.14)
Ate the manna (Exo. 16)
Water from the rock (Exo. 17)
All the events at Sinai (Exo. 19 – ff)
The pillar of cloud and pillar of fire (Num. 9)
Earth swallowing 3 men (Num. 16)
slide10. The Previous Generation Knew God Joshua Knew & Saw
The Elders Knew & Saw
Any man less than 20 was not included among the men of war sentenced to die in the wilderness (Num. 1:2-3; 26:2)
Thus, the elders (Josh. 24:31) could well remember all the things Joshua remembered
slide11. The Previous Generation Knew God Joshua Knew & Saw
The Elders Knew & Saw
What Impacted Them: Mighty Works of God
Deut. 11:1-7

They got the point!
They saw – they learned – they believed – they feared!
slide12. The Previous Generation Knew God Joshua Knew & Saw
The Elders Knew & Saw

Sadly They Did Not Transmit that Faith
Judges 2:10
Why? What happened?
slide13. A Generation That Did Not Know God The Previous Generation Knew God How Could They Transmit Faith to The Next…?
slide14. How Could They Transmit Faith to The Next? Could it be That Since They Didn’t See Same Deeds – They Could Not Be Moved?
Seeing miracles itself didn’t guarantee proper reaction:
Pharaoh & Egyptians not moved by miracles
When Israel saw earth swallow 3 men – not easily get the point (Num. 16:41)
Pharisees acknowledged miracles (John 11:47)
Many signs – yet did not believe (John 12:37)
Must have been ways to impress them – without them seeing the wonders themselves
slide15. How Could They Transmit Faith to The Next? Could it be That Since They Didn’t See Same Deed – They Could Not Be Moved?
By Teaching Them from the Law (Psa. 78)
God gave them “testimony in Jacob” – law (v. 5)
One generation was to tell it to another (vv. 3,4, 5)
That next generation may know (v. 6)
That one generation may teach next (v. 6)
That they may set hope in God (v. 7)
That they may not forget God (v. 7)
slide16. How Could They Transmit Faith to The Next? Could it be That Since They Didn’t See Same Deed – They Could Not Be Moved?
By Teaching Them from the Law (Psa. 78)

Must Realize Power & Sufficiency of Word to do the Job
John 17:20
Rom. 10:17
John 20:28-29
slide17. How Could They Transmit Faith to The Next? The only way to ensure that your children will know God & serve him
Is to teach them the word!
