slide2. MODELS – STATIC AND WORKING A model is a copy or a replica of some real thing. It is a three dimensional object that represents an idea, a principle, and object or a living thing.
Model is the next best thing to the real thing.<br>
slide3. TYPES OF MODELS: Static models: These are three dimensional replicas of the real things but do not function like the real thing.
Working Models: These have an added component i.e. functioning. These function just like the real things. Hence these are more attractive and more educative.<br>
slide4. ADVANTAGES: Raw materials are easily available.
Does not involve specialized skills.
Can be effectively used by learners.
Preparation is simple.
Simple, accurate and appropriate.
Preparation of the model is stimulating, thinking, reacting.
Preparation favors concentration of mind.
Process helps utilization of leisure time.<br>
slide5. PROCESS OF DEVELOPING MODELS Objectives: The objectives of the models in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes to be developed are defined in the light of needs of users.
Design: A design for the development of diff. materials is defined in terms of the type of model, its cost, its reference.
Construction: After having decided the design of the models, they are constructed by students and teachers and it necessary the specialists in the community are also involved.
Testing: The pilot testing of the models is done by teachers or researchers with selected sample.
Quality Sealing: If the material is considered satisfactory after pilot-testing, it is finalized for production and use in large quantity.<br>
slide6. VALUES OF DEVELOPING MODELS: Economic Value: Using minimum and cheapest of materials to the maximum advantages develops economic values in the learners.
Educational and Psychological Value: In case of young learners the understanding travels from hands to the head. For better understanding the co-ordination of hands and head is important. Constructing models or apparatus may develop some creative hobbies and overall confidence. Using models hels the Teacher to clarify abstract concepts in various subjects.
Social Value: When the pupils work with their own hands, they develop love for labour. They love to work with their own hands. Students work in group thereby develop group values.
Moral Value: When teachers and students prepare models in a systematic manner it lead to self confidence, punctuality, co-operation so on. These valves help to inculcate in day today life.<br>
slide7. MATERIALS REQUIRED: Models can be prepared by materials easily available in our society like plaster of Paris, wax, soap, nails, glass, bottles, plastic bottles, wires, tubes, clips, sticks, cloth, cardboard, packing cases, battery boxes, tins etc..
Paper, card-board thermocol, paints are gaining prominence now a days. These can be used to prepare models.

Electric circuit, Simple Pendulum, Newton’s colour Disc, Globe<br>
