DIRECTOR’S COMMENTS TODD LANG EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, WORKFORCE INVESTMENT COUNCIL DC Workforce System Accomplishments Launched Quick Path to Energy program, DC Infrastructure Academy, and Apprenticeship DC to increase access to Occupational Skills Training, On the Job Training (OJT), Apprenticeships and other work-based learning opportunities Partners worked collaboratively to streamline and increase access to shared services Finalized MOUs between all Workforce partners- providing the basis for cooperation, collaboration and alignment –pertaining to the operation of DC’s American Job Centers. Blended adult education and workforce funding to support Integrated Education and Training (IE&T) program models that are part of a fully articulated career pathway 5 DC Workforce System Accomplishments Increased alignment between adult education and local business needs by basing program offerings on Labor Market Information (LMI) and by supporting collaborative partnerships between IE&T providers and employers Increased our roster of Eligible Training Providers from 9 to 32, offering more options for DC residents Prepared for the expansion of the Data Vault to support the shared intake, assessment, and referral of customers by advancing MOUs and cross-training partner agency staff Procured – for the first time ever – a One Stop Operator to increase customer service delivery and coordination amongst system partners 6 Introduction & Objectives 7 Board Engagement Increased Communication Regular newsletter for WIC Board Members Board Governance & Development Plan Designed to enhance engagement of Board Members – put Board Members in best position to leverage their resources & talents Improve the Board governance structure resulting in broader and more effective participation, meeting design, work flow/decision making processes, accountability and overall performance. Ad Hoc Committee – Manage priorities, make this a co-led process by WIC Board & Staff, guide consultant’s priorities 8 Board Governance Development Plan Summary of Actions & Deliverables Board Orientation Guide Survey to identify topic areas Board Members want addressed Materials and resources to equip Board Members to be best ambassadors possible for DC Workforce System Guidance on how best to leverage board resources to help more job seekers and engage more businesses Guidelines for Committee governance & participation Final Board Governance Plan 9 Business Engagement Demand Industry Sector Events Develop stronger understanding of sector needs, workforce, and
