Located in Chicago’s South Loop Enrollment of about 1200 students Diverse Student Body Large first generation, low income population Known as a leader in Experience Based Learning Currently awaiting HLC approval for merger with Roosevelt University RMUI will become Robert Morris College of Experiential Learning within Roosevelt Experience Based Learning and Faculty RMUI is a teaching university and embedding experiences into the classroom has been a part of the culture for many years Push for EBL came from top down Teaching Institute established by President in early 2000s Teaching Institute formalized EBL in 2015 Part of Long Range Plan Shared best practices Started to record EBL activities DARA Model instituted Experience Based Learning Institute Created 2019 Experiences, activities and projects are recorded, tracked, shared, duplicated and assessed Shared responsibility of Career Readiness by all faculty DARA Model Robert Morris University’s Experience-based Learning (EbL) Model Robert Morris University’s Experience-based Learning (EbL) Model is a standardized process for the development and delivery of experiential activities through the fulfillment of four steps: Design: Experiences are created with intentionality to connect with the course learning outcomes and actualize the full design, act, reflect, acknowledge (DARA) process. Act: Students learn through immersion in an experience that relates to a real-life situation. Reflect: Students are provided opportunities to cogitate on the learning outcomes of the experience. Acknowledge: Students are provided opportunities to connect how the transferable skills gained or honed in the experience will apply to future academic, personal, and/or professional endeavors.
