slide2. Scabies is a skin infestation by mite , Sarcoptes scabiei.
Transmitted by skin to skin contact
Incubation period- 14 days
Fertilised female parasite invade the stratum corneum and form burrow where it deposits its eggs. SCABIES<br>
slide3. Nocturnal severe pruritis.
Polymorphic Eruption-
consisting small pointed papule, papulopustule, scratching marks (excoriation), sometimes vesicle and urticarial lesion. Clinical Evaluation:<br>
slide4. Characterstic burrows are usually present in small numbers which are greyish brown , curved or S shaped.
Point of entry of mite is most superficial part of burrow having scaly appearance and at the distal end there is a tiny vesicle, adjacent to which is female mite.<br>
slide5. All individuals in the house are preferably treated simultaneously .
Clothes and bedsheets should be washed or dry cleaned.
Gamma benzene hexachloride for L/A
Benzyl benzoate emulsion (25-33%) L/A for 3 consecutive nights.
Oral antihistaminic for pruritis.
Systemic antibiotics for secondary bacterial infection.
Oral Ivermectin as a single dose. Treatment<br>
