slide2. What is Conservatory? The SJHHS Conservatory program was created by the Performing Arts department to:
Provide an avenue that allows for deeper growth
Instructs the students in a way that prepares them for collegiate, conservatory, or professional life after high school
Honor the students who are committed to their specific craft
Create a way to push students to their full potential while still having them enrolled in general arts classes.<br>

slide4. Who can be in Conservatory? Any interested student who conferences with the Focus Instructor in their selected Conservatory
and it is decided that it is the right path for them.<br>
slide5. What makes someone right for Conservatory? A student who wants to have a career in the arts
A student who wants to be pushed further
A student who wants to work past the normal school day workload
A student with a positive attitude
A student who excels in their craft, or wants to
A student who is good at independently managing their goals.<br>
slide6. What is required for Conservatory? Different Conservatories have different requirements due to the wide variety of skills necessary in each focus area.
Think of it as selecting a “Major” of focus while you are here at SJHHS
In school, there are minimal differences in classwork
You will NOT be enrolled in a Conservatory class.<br>
slide7. Class Requirements These are to be complete by the time you graduate
They all must be taken at SJHHS.
Only in extreme scheduling conflict circumstances will outside courses be accepted as a part of the Conservatory Curriculum
These are approved on case by case basis.<br>

Core focus classes (Acting, or Technical Theatre)
Secondary focus classes (Classes that help support your core classes)
Elective Arts classes (Music Theory, Art, Dance, Choir, Video Production, Guitar, Commercial Music)<br>

slide12. What else is required? Due to the fact that Conservatory does not require an audition to get it, a requirement to ensure the quality of the craft work is the :
PRODUCTION REQUIREMENT
This ensures that the student is performing at a level that will be successful once the student gets to a higher level of education or in the work industry<br>
slide13. Production Req. Theatre Students must have completed by the time they graduate AT SJHHS:
3 semesters of Drama/Musical Comedy
This needs to include the following role requirements:
Major Role- 2 productions
Main stage production role with a lead, supporting, or featured character
Minor role- 3 productions
Any role in a Main stage production
Showcase role- 4 showcases

Any of the design areas (3 of which are in area of focus)
Submission of work into at LEAST 4 festivals
CETA, Fullerton, Cappies, Scholarships etc.
Run crew for at LEAST 4 outside productions
This could include dance, choir, instrumental, theatre events, or outside theatre companies.<br>

4 Juries
Final assessment at the end of each year
Summative performance in front of a panel
Each Conservatory member is required to view:
2 professional shows a semester (college of above)
Each with a write-up critique
Each Conservatory member is required to Attend:
2 outside auditions a year
Each with a write-up reflection<br>

You will be graded on a more highly structured rubric for better feedback to push your performance
At Auditions
You will be expected to submit your headshot and updated resume
This is for practice
Optional Workshops
It is expected all conservatory students to attend free optional workshops Ms. B provides in their area of focus.<br>
slide18. Odds and Ends GPA Requirement:
Students are expected to receive ‘A’’s in all core academy classes
A “B” is allowed in AP Music Theory
Students must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
Students are expected to be an active member of the:
Trapdoor Theatre Company
AND/OR the
International Thespian Society<br>

Serves as a summative 4-year assessment

Rubrics from performance or adjudication
