slide4. Attendance and Punctuality All pupils should aim for 100% attendance – each and every day makes a difference to your learning
Holidays should not be taken during term time
Arriving on time in the morning and afternoon is essential as registration is a legal requirement
Pupils should be in school by 8.45am. Any pupil arriving in school after 8.50 is late and must sign in the `late book’ at Pupil Reception.<br>
slide5. Being a successful learner Resourceful – have a go at solving problems, be creative, show initiative
Resilient – don’t give up, keep trying to improve, aim high
Reflective – know what you are good at, learn from your mistakes, think about how you can improve
Reciprocal – work as a team, share ideas, listen to others, know how and when to work on your own<br>
slide6. Our Uniform A smart and professional appearance reflects a smart and professional student !
The highest standards of uniform are required, from setting off for school and throughout the day, to arriving home
This includes:
School blazers are to be worn (with or without the school pullover), both inside and outside school
White school shirts are to be tucked in with top buttons done up
Clip on ties are to be worn by Years 7 – 10 pupils. Year 11 ties must be properly and neatly tied.
Trousers must be plain black/charcoal grey school trousers. They cannot be: tight, denim, skinny, leggings/jeggings, cargo, nor jean style, ‘Miss Sixty’ trousers or similar
If belts are worn on trousers the belt should be plain black with a plain buckle – all without decoration
Socks should be plain and black or charcoal
Girls’ tights are to be unpatterned, black or skin coloured
School skirts are obtained from Mrs Tanner in the school shop and fitted by Mrs Tanner or a member of her team to ensure they are correctly sized. Skirts can be no more than 9cm above the knee<br>
slide7. Our Uniform cont... Jewellery is not allowed except for a wrist watch, one charity band and one stud in each ear
Hair should be kept out of the face and a natural colour
Shoes should be flat black school shoes. Unacceptable shoes are trainers, plimsolls, ‘Toms’, espadrille style shoes, platforms, boots and UGG style boots<br>

Books – including homework diary, with you at all times
+ Equipment – make sure you have all the necessary pens/pencils, as well as specialist equipment (eg/Maths)

Arrive promptly and enter quietly
Sit down in the seat allocated to you in the class seating plan
Have books, homework diary and equipment ready in front of you
If you are late, politely explain to the teacher the reason for your lateness
When a teacher is talking to the class, you should be attentive and silent with pens/pencils placed down
When another pupil is contributing to a class discussion, you should be silent and listening carefully
During the lesson you should stay seated, asking permission if you need to get up<br>
slide10. Our Classroom Agreement You should not leave the classroom once the lesson has started unless there is a medical emergency.
Before putting up your hand to ask for help during a lesson:
Re-read the question or check the instructions; think carefully
Where appropriate, discuss with your neighbour
If still stuck, ask the teacher for help and be prepared to wait
The teacher signals the end of a lesson by asking pupils to pack away quietly. Pupils should stand behind their chairs, check the floor for dropped items and exit in a quiet and orderly manner when directed to do so.<br>
slide11. Our conduct around the school Be aware of others and act courteously at all times; in particular show respect for others by opening doors and allowing people to pass through. Move gently and quietly around the school buildings.
Always walk and keep to the left in corridors and on stairs
Show respect for the school environment. Litter must be placed in bins provided. Eat only in specially designated areas of the school. Keep furniture and walls clean and unmarked. Show respect for displays of people’s work.
All pupils, excluding the Sixth Form, will remain on school premises throughout the school day unless permission has been granted by the Head of Year.
The Leisure Centre is out of bounds before school and at all times during the day, except for timetabled lessons<br>
slide12. Our conduct around the school You should not bring any of the following into school: chewing gum, matches/lighters, aerosols, mp3 players, fireworks, knives, cigarettes or any illegal substances.
The presence and use of mobile phones is forbidden in school. If a mobile is essential for before/after school use it must be kept securely out of sight throughout the school day.
The above items will be confiscated if seen by staff. You should then see your Head of Year to discuss this.
Behaviour on the way to/from school (eg/ on school buses) must meet the same high standards as in school<br>
slide13. Consequences If your behaviour does not meet the high standards expected of everyone at The Cotswold School, there are always consequences to face.
Depending on how your behaviour falls short, these consequences could involve:
teacher / senior staff reprimand
negative in class report
cause for concern to head of year
subject / head of year / headteacher detention
withdrawal of school privileges eg/trips/participation in Actvities Week
community service
phone call or letter home / meeting with parents
senior staff cover
isolation
exclusion from school – fixed-term or permanent
It is your responsibility to ensure you don’t let yourself – and others – down. Set yourself high standards and work hard to achieve them.<br>
slide14. Consequences Bullying is never tolerated in our school community and will be dealt with severely, as will:
Use of foul language to a member of staff
Racist language / intimidation
Physical attacks on any member of our school community
A formal exclusion from school, notified to the local authority, will be used as the sanction.<br>

Recognising commitment Your effort, hard work, achievement, improvement, initiative, thoughtfulness, punctuality, high standards of appearance, concentration, contributions in class, involvement in activities out of class…. …..will be recognised and rewarded through praise, encouragement, comments in subject books, positives on class report, house points, commendations, letters to parents, certificates, display of your work, recognition in assemblies/school newsletter, reports, phone calls home… and many other ways Always give your very best
…and enjoy the personal satisfaction that achievement brings<br>
slide16. Extra-Curricular Activities Learning doesn’t stop when you leave the classroom. There are lots of activities in school that help you to learn and have fun out of lessons – before school, at lunchtimes and after-school.
These range from sport, drama and music to languages, science, cooking, crafts, chess and lots more!
We hope everyone will be involved with at least 1 of these extra activities and hopefully more.
