THE FOX AND THE CROW an Ananse Write Along Story Welcome everyone to another Write Along session. I’m Lisa Levi. A storyteller, and a writer of stories. You can find my work on my website – river-stories.com. Today I am going to tell you a story. But you. You’re going to write the story. It will be an Ananse story. Your own Ananse story. You can write long sentences. You can write short sentences. You can write lots of sentences or just one sentence each time. But you must write as we go. I will ask you questions and you will write your answers. Your answers will make your story. So when I say write. You write. At this stage spellings don’t matter. Remember you can always go back later and fix things or change things. Crick Crack – Monkey break he back Mandee Mando Mandee Mando This is an Ananse story. Mandee Mando Mandee Mando Long ago, Brother Ananse, the spider-man, came all the way from Ghana in Africa, to live in the Caribbean. In Africa, Ananse was an important man, a powerful man. They called him the Trickster God, because he liked to play tricks on the people. But in the Caribbean, Ananse became a spider. A spider man. A tricky spider. Who knew how to get what he wanted by playing tricks on people and other animals. I am bush Ananse. You not as smart as me. I am bush Ananse. You not as smart as me. Mandee Mando Mandee Mando So what does this Ananse look like. This spider man, Ananse? What he look like? This Ananse. He big or he small? He have a big belly? His head, round or it long? His eyes wide or close together? He have a broad smile or a thin smile. Write something about this Ananse. Ananse is… Ananse has He looks like… His legs, skinny? How many arms? What he look like, if you see him? – (Mandee whole song?) So this boy Ananse. One day he woke up. And he stretched and he yawned. And he was very hungry. He was so hungry; hungry wasn’t a big enough word to say how hungry he was. What other words you know to mean hungry? Write – words that mean hungry.
