To show proper etiquette and respect in recognizing and honoring those in positions of leadership. To create pride and respect in the society and toward one another.
03
Principles NSDAR protocol principles are dictated by:
Ethics
Courtesy
Good Manners
Common Sense
They were established with the assistance of the State Department of the United States, Protocol Division.
04
Flag Protocol Salute the U.S. Flag (right hand across your heart) whenever it is in motion – your hands should be empty.
When the Flag is moving, your eyes should remain on the Flag until it stops (turn body if necessary).
When the Flag stops moving, your fight hand should come down to rest at your side (do not salute other flags).
If you are wearing gloves, remove right glove just before the Pledge of Allegiance and remain ungloved through the National Anthem – do not hold the glove from your right hand in your left hand.
When posting the colors, right hand goes back over your heart until flag is in the stand.
Never enter or leave the meeting during the Pledge of Allegiance or the National Anthem.
05
State Conference Processions Rise as the procession enters the room.
Observe proper flag protocol.
Greet the President General and State Regent with applause,
Remain standing for the opening ritual.
Be seated when invited to do so. (Those having difficulty standing for the entire time are may be seated as necessary.)
06
Wearing the Bling! When attending DAR functions or if invited to represent a chapter or the state elsewhere, pins and sashes are appropriate.
Not just a piece of jewelry; you should feel honored to wear them and display with pride and the expectation of respect.
Can only be worn by active members in good standing.
The insignia is worn at the bottom of the official ribbon.
You can only wear pins you have earned through service or donation.
Worn only with dress, dress slacks, or pant suits (never jeans or casual pants)
Worn over left shoulder and attached to the shoulder seam of clothing.
Nothing can be worn on the left side with the ribbon except a U.S. Flag pin. And the Flag pin cannot be worn ON the ribbon.
07
Wearing Gloves Usually in the evening.
Usually during receiving lines but always follow the example of the State Regent (or hostess). If she wears them, so should you.
Usually white, but you may wear colored gloves to match your dress.
Worn on both hands (but the right one is removed just before the Pledge of Allegiance and while singing the National Anthem).
08
Ways to Address State Regent

Chapter Regent
“Madam Regent”
