am processing of bio mass - derived - synthesis - gas ( syngas, a mixture of CO and H 2 ) , assisted in the integration o f downstream catalysis in the biomass - to - chemical technique • Responsible for report and presentation of data on lab - scal e and pilot - scale catalytic reactors ( FBR and CSTR) in NSF - IGERT program • Responsible for technical com munication with RenTech Inc. • Assi st ed in the setup and test of a new Renishaw In Via Raman Microscope in a catalysis group Graduate Research Assistant , Catalysis and Supercritical Fluid Processing L aboratory, Au burn University • Started a project on produc tion of middle distillate range hy dr ocarbons from (natural gas/biomass/coal derived - ) syngas, effectively modified the Fischer - Tropsch ( FT ) pro duct distr ibution and distinguishably elevated the middle distillates selectivity • Developed and characterized K a nd Cu promoted Fe based ZnO suppor te d hydrocarbon synthesis catalysts, including physi - sorption & chemi - sorption for BET surface area and metal dispersio n, surface im aging using JEOL SEM, surface elem ent detection using EDS, determination of metal crystal size using XRD, activation of cata ly sts and measurement of catalyst activity • Designed and set up a n up to 3 000 psi high pressure multi - bed cont inuous rea ctor system • Operated a high temperature high pr essure multi - bed continuous reactor system under both ga s phase and supercritical phase co nd itions • Investigated the oligomerization catalytic activity of amorphous silica alumina on Fischer - Tropsch r eaction mi xtures , successfully synthesized C 7 - C 12 aromati cs to enhance fuel density as well as decreased the olef in content which is a concern for Fe - based FT fuels • Designed a SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 supported Pd based hydrogenation/cracking/isomerization catalyst and inve stigat ed its catalytic activity, distinguishably in cr eased the bra nching of carbon chain in the fuel range hy drocarbons which can promote the c ol d - flow properties of liquid fuels, significantly stimulat ed the hydrogenation of FT hydrocarbons which incr ease the s tability of Fe - based FT fuels • Applied supercrit ical solvent in Fischer - Tropsch synthesis to study the e ffect of supercritical solvent on th e catalytic performance, including conversio n, selectivity and productivity , effectively decreased the CH 4 and CO 2 se lectivity , as well as changed the aldehydes and alcohol sele ctivities • Designed an d assembled a view ce ll system and investigated on near - c ritical /supercritical phase behavior of pentane, hexane, hydrocarbon mixtures and simulated FT reaction mix tures R ESEARCH EXPERTISE AND SKILLS • 7+ years hand - on ex perience in s ynthesis gas reactions , CO hydrogenation, c ataly tic synthesis of hydrocarbons/oxygenated hydrocar bo ns , and hydrocarbon upgrading reactions (alkylation, oligomerization, hyd rocracking/iso merization) • 7+ years hand - on experience in catalyst synth esis , catalys t promoters and supporting materials, c atal yst characterization, data analysis , equipment mainten an ce, operation , modification and troubleshooting of lab - scale continuous m ultiple - bed ca talytic reactor system • In - depth knowledge of h etero geneou s catalysis, reaction engineering, reaction kineti
