Things to know for Freshmen… House Bill 5: Our current graduation requirements for 9 th graders is called House Bill 5. You will learn more about this and the impact that it has on your freshman during your individual four year parent planning meetings. You will schedule your appointment through the link on the school counseling newsletter through Sign Up Genius. The 30 minute meeting with student and parent will occur during your scheduled time from October through December. This meeting will set the stage for planning your student’s next 3 years.

Grades 9th & 10th **Current tenth graders are also on the House Bill 5 graduation plan **Counselors will meet with sophomores in the spring to assist them in completing their next two school years of high school. STAAR/EOC All students are expected to pass the five STAAR EOC (English 1, English 2, Algebra 1, Biology and US History) for graduation purposes. R etest opportunities are available throughout the year. PSAT NISD pays for all students to take in grades 9-11. 11 th grade is the important year for National Merit. Results in Dec-Jan. SAT/ACT It is recommended that students take the SAT/ACT in the Spring of their Junior year.

Future Knowledge - Grades 10-12 Dual Credit Can take in 11-12 grade. May take two courses per semester. Counts as high school credit and college credit. Offered through NCTC at junior college price. Must have a 3.0 GPA and pass TSI to qualify. Does require early planning/registration. Depending on numbers, could either be face to face or online. Will have an informational meeting in the Spring What’s the difference between dual credit and AP? As of now, AP is weighted more than dual credit for GPA. AP credit depends on your test score and the college you attend. Dual credit hours may not be accepted at private or out of state universities.
