(BOOK)-Mathematical Models of Social Evolution: A Guide for the Perplexed: Transcript
Over the last several decades mathematical models have become central to the study of social evolution both in biology and the social sciences But students in these disciplines often seriously lack the tools to understand them A primer on behavioral modeling that includes both mathematics and evolutionary theory Mathematical Models of Social Evolution aims to make the student and professional researcher in biology and the social sciences fully conversant in the language of the fieldTeaching biological concepts from which models can be developed Richard McElreath and Robert Boyd introduce readers to many of the typical mathematical tools that are used to analyze evolutionary models and end each chapter with a set of problems that draw upon these techniques Mathematical Models of Social Evolution equips behaviorists and evolutionary biologists with the mathematical knowledge to truly understand the models on which their research depends Ultimately McElreath and Boyds goal is to impart the fundamental concepts that underlie modern biological understandings of the evolution of behavior so that readers will be able to more fully appreciate journal articles and scientific literature and start building models of their own. brPage 1br WKH5734757595XN57347DQG57347WKH573476357347FRQYHUWHUV H5734757595XN57347FRQYHUWHU5735957347WKH Mathematical Models and Methods in Modern Science IS MATH MODELING. 2010. 09:40 AM-10:30 AM JWB 208 . EBOOK The Guide for the Perplexed The subject of Christian Bioethics: A Guide for the Perplexed is bioethics in a wide sense including issues in medical ethics and questions concerning our relationship with animals, plants and, indeed, the whole planet earth. The key question is that of the value of life. This, then, yields the questions of what respect we owe to human and other forms of life and of how we should care for the world in general. These questions are approached from a Christian perspective and also from more strictly philosophical perspectives. Thus, arguments from a Christian perspective regarding our relationships with fellow humans, other creatures and the planet, are coupled with discussions of different kinds of argument and counter-argument.
