Homecrest Presbyterian Church Worship of the Lord’s Day June 25 th , 2017 3rd Sunday after Pentecost Youth Sunday

Gathering Around the WORD Call To Worship We gather as the body of Christ to worship. One body with many members. Not all members have the same function. Yet we are members one with another.

Gathering Around the WORD Call To Worship Although we may have our differences, but we share one common faith, one Lord, and one baptism, through the unity of the Holy Spirit. We share one common love and calling in order to fulfill God’s mission here on earth.

Gathering Around the WORD Call To Worship God has equipped us with many gifts to share in order to build this community of faith and this body of Christ. Come, let us worship God!

Come, O Spirit, dwell among us; come with Pentecostal power; give the church a stronger vision; help us face each crucial hour. Gathering Hymn # 280 “Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us”

Built upon a firm foundation, Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone, still the church is called to mission that God's love shall be made known. Gathering Hymn # 280 “Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us”

We would raise our alleluias for the grace of yesteryears; for tomorrow's unknown pathway, hear, O Lord, our humble prayers. Gathering Hymn # 280 “Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us”

In the church's pilgrim journey you have led us all the way; still in presence move before us, fire by night and cloud by day. Gathering Hymn # 280 “Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us”

Come, O Spirit, dwell among us; give us words of fire and flame. Help our feeble lips to praise you, glorify your holy name. Gathering Hymn # 280 “Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us”

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Three in One: what mystery! We would sing our loud hosannas now and through eternity. Gathering Hymn # 280 “Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us”

Gathering Around the WORD Call to Confession Through Christ, God has promised us a newness of life through our repentance and forgiveness. In humility and faith, let us confess our sins before God and our neighbors.

Gathering Around the WORD Prayer of Confession (in Unison) Merciful God, you have led us out of the land of bondage and have set us free. Yet we have worshipped our own idols and failed to obey you in our thoughts and deeds. Forgive us, O Lord and renew us with a contrite spirit. Help us to fulfill your promise through the leading of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Gathering Around the WORD Declaration of Forgiveness (Based on Psalm 103:7-12) The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is God’s steadfast love toward those who fear God; as far as the east is from the west, as God removes our transgressions from us. By our confession and repentance, God forgives us and makes us new once again. Thanks be to God, Amen.

Gathering Around the WORD Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Gathering Around the WORD Passing of the Peace of Christ

Proclaiming the WORD Honoring our Youth and Graduates / Prayer of Illumination Junior High School: Cynthia OrLexi ChenHigh School: Joseph Dwan Ashley Maldonado Nicola Lai

Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Numbers 27:12-23) 12 The LORD said to Moses, "Go up this mountain of the Abarim range, and see the land that I have given to the Israelites. 13 When you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was, 14 because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin when the congregation quarreled with me. You did not show my holiness before their eyes at the waters." (These are the waters of Meribath-kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Numbers 27:12-23) 15 Moses spoke to the LORD, saying, 16 "Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint someone over the congregation 17 who shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the LORD may not be like sheep without a shepherd."

Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Numbers 27:12-23) 18 So the LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay your hand upon him; 19 have him stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and commission him in their sight. 20 You shall give him some of your authority, so that all the congregation of the Israelites may obey. 21 But he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the decision of the Urim before the LORD; at his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the Israelites with him, the whole congregation."

Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Numbers 27:12-23) 22 So Moses did as the LORD commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation; 23 he laid his hands on him and commissioned him-- as the LORD had directed through Moses.

Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (I Timothy 4:1-16) Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will renounce the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are seared with a hot iron. 3 They forbid marriage and demand abstinence from foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by God's word and by prayer.

Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (I Timothy 4:1-16) 6 If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching that you have followed. 7 Have nothing to do with profane myths and old wives' tales. Train yourself in godliness, 8 for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (I Timothy 4:1-16) 9 The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance. 10 For to this end we toil and struggle, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (I Timothy 4:1-16) 11 These are the things you must insist on and teach. 12 Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13 Until I arrive, give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhorting, to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you , which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands by the council of elders.

Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (I Timothy 4:1-16) 15 Put these things into practice, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress. 16 Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.
