This means that from food we get the power so that our body is able to perform:-· Inward movements, for e.g. our heart beats, our blood circulates, etc.· Outward movements, for e.g. when we dance, run, push, etc.Energy also helps to keep our body warm. Energy is stored in our body in the form of fats. It is important to have a layer of fats in our body because:-Ò Fats help to keep us warmÒ It serves as a cushion so that we do not hurt ourselves when we bump, fall, etc.Ò It serves as a ready store of energy when we are in need of it, for e.g. when we are sick and we cannot eat. unctions of foodMain Functions

7. It is important not to eat a lot of those foods which give us a lot of energy, for otherwise we grow fat.The amount of energy our body uses depends on the type of activity that we do.2. Food Helps Us to Grow and Repair Our body is made up of the food we eat.With food our body grows in size. The body grows from that of a baby, into that of an adult.Food also helps us to repair a broken part of the body, for e.g. when we break a leg. 17. Some nutrients provide us with energy, some help us grow and some help us tofight diseases. Different foods have different nutrients. Therefore, to remain fit and healthy, we need to eat different foods.

20. What are MACRO - nutrients?What are MICRO - nutrients?These are needed in LARGE amounts by the body. They include Carbohydrates, Protein, Fats.These are needed in SMALL amounts by the body. They include Minerals & Vitamins.

27. CarbohydratesFood & NutrientsSugars and starches are carbohydrates. They are needed by your body to get quick energy. That is why they are called energy-giving nutrients. 

28. CarbohydratesFood & NutrientsCereals such as rice, wheat and maize are rich in carbohydrates called Starch. So are foods made from cereals such as bread. Sugar, things containing sugar, even fruit like bananas are rich in carbohydrates.

29. FatsFood & NutrientsFats are nutrients that also provide us with energy. They are stored in the body for future use. The energy stored in them is used when the body does not get enough food to eat. Fats also keep our body warm. Oil, butter, cheese and nuts are rich in fats.

30. Vitamins & MineralsFood & NutrientsVitamins and minerals are nutrients that our body needs in very small amounts. They help our body to work properly and fight disease. They are therefore called protective foods. There are several vitamins and minerals that our body needs.
