Divergent Vocabulary 1

Faction (n) Divergent takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the survivors have been separated into five different factions or groups and can only associate with their fellow faction members.

Placid (adj) The placid ocean created smooth sailing for the traveling sailors since there were no waves to jostle the boat.

Duplicity (n) Politicians are often guilty of duplicity ; they will say whatever they have to win the campaign.

Perplexing (adj) Being a native English speaker, I find the symbols and characters of the Chinese alphabet to be perplexing and confusing.

Deft (adj) Hopefully during the Super Bowl, we will see some deft handling of the ball since the players are skilled professionals.

Impeccable (adj) The police offer had impeccable timing; he showed up at the scene just in time to catch the thief red-handed.

Fortitude (n) The Avengers showed great fortitude when they over came their pessimism and rose to the challenge of fighting Loki and his army.

Precipice (n) The store realized that it was on the edge of an economic precipice and needed to make some big sales soon or their budget would drop dangerously low.

Precipice (n) As the Corvette came to the edge of the precipice , the young man jumped out of the car as it fell.

Sentry (n) In Divergent , one of the jobs of the Dauntless is a sentry because they are brave enough to stand guard and protect the city from what is beyond the wall.

Eradicate (v) When a house is infested with roaches, the normal goal is to eradicate or exterminate the pests.
