Brian Setzer

Born April 10, 1959 in Massapequa, New York.

American song writer, guitarist, and singer.

Married one of the backing vocalists in his orchestra.Slide3

Stray Cats

Started a band in 1979 called Tom Cats.

Later became known as the Stray Cats.

In 1980 the band traveled to London.

Became popular by 1982.

Band consisted of three members, Brian Setzer on guitar, drummer Slim Jim Phantom, and lastly Lee Rocker as bassist.

The Stray Cats brokeup in 1984 but reunited in 1986 only to quit again in 1992. They have since periodically reunited for live performaces.Slide4

Rockabilly

Rockabilly is known to be a mixture of country & western and rhythm & jump blues.

The elements of this style generally include; slapping string bass, acoustic lead guitar, and a twanging lead guitar.

Generally you will also hear in their singing, yelps, gulps, stutters, and occasionally the "call and response." Slide5

The Brian Setzer Orchestra

The 17 piece orchestra was started in 1990.

They are known to play jump blues and swing revival, neither are lacking his rockabilly personality.

When he started this orchestra, they began by playing in clubs around Los Angelos.

They quickly gained popularity and were soon signed with Hollywood Records.Slide7

Brian Setzer - Solo

Shortly after disband of the Stray Cats, Setzer started his solo career.

His first album was not promoted because of his new modern sound, resulting in less than success.

Made many albums with his on and off solo career.

Solo career recieves less attention due to starting his orchestra.
