Notethatwhenusingthecapacitivetouchsliders,theLaunchPad+430BOOST-SHARP96BoosterPack shouldbeheldcarefully.ItispossiblefortheusertoholdtheLaunchPadinawaythattouchesthe capacitivetouchsliderpinsdirectly;forexample,handstouchingthrough-holepinsonthebottomofthe LaunchPad.Ifthisoccurs,thereadingsofthesliderswillbeincorrectandunexpectedbehaviorcould occur.ItisbesttosettheLaunchPad+BoosterPackflatonasurfaceinsteadofholdingittopreventthis. 2.1.3CustomizablePowerSection Thepowersectionisdesignedtoworkoutoftheboxinmostusecases;however,somespecialcases mightrequireadifferentpowersupplywiring. Through-holepinsareprovidedforBoosterPackheadersandthepowersystem.Asetof0-\rresistors allowroutinginpredefinedscenarios. ThedefaultsettingusesaGPIOpintopowertheBoosterPackatLaunchPadGPIOvoltage.Thisallows removingpowerfromtheBoosterPackentirelyviasoftwareontheLaunchPad.Itisoftenbeneficialto controlthepoweroftheLCDdirectly,andalthoughtheLCDisultra-lowpower,completelypoweringit downcanextendbatterylife. Bymodifyingthe0-\rresistorsthesetupcanbechangedtoconnecttoVCCallthetime.Thisfreesupone pinontheBoosterPackheader. Additionally,thereisa3-Vto5-VDC/DCconverteronboard.InthedefaultconfigurationthisDC/DC converteriscompletelydisconnected.Using0-\rresistorsorsolderbridgestheconvertercanbeenabled andtheoutputusedtopowerthedisplay.ThiscanbeusefultointerfaceotherSharpdisplaysthatcome withthesameconnectorbutrequire5V. Thescoresarelostonlywhenyoureprogramthedevice. 3.1.8SpecialNotes:InvertingtheDisplayColorScheme TheUserExperiencedemocodecaninvertthedisplaycolors.Thiscanbeausefulfeaturefortimeswhen theoriginaldisplaycolorsettingsaredifficulttoread. ThegrlibexamplefortheG2ValueLineLaunchPadisaspecialcaseduetothememorylimitationsofthe ValueLinedevices.TypicallyaRAMbufferofthedisplaycontentsiskept,soitcanbemodifiedand flushedbackouttothedisplay.TheSharpdisplayrequires96x96pixelsofmemory.Becauseeachpixel requires1bit(1byte=8pixels),theRAMbufferrequiresover1KBofdata.Asofthiswriting,thelargest memoryG2xxdeviceavailableontheMSP-EXP430G2istheMSP430G2553,whichhas512bytesof RAM. (1) ThisRAMlimitationledtoaspecialimplementationoftheSharpdisplaydriveringrlib.Insteadofusinga RAMbuffer,aflashbufferisusedtoholdthecontentsofthedisplay.Thebufferresidescompletelyin flash,wheredisplayupdatesarewritten,andthenreadoutasthecontentsareflushedtothedisplay.This implementationisnotcommon,norisitrecommendedonotherdeviceswithenoughRAM.Itwas implementedthiswayonlyasademonstrationofgrlibfunctionality. Theimplementationofaflashbufferhasdrawbacks.ComparedtoRAM,flashisslowertowriteand requiresmoreenergy.Flashalsohasawriteendurancelimit.FromthedatasheetfortheMSP430G2553 (SLAS735),flashprogramanderaseenduranceis10000minimumand100000typical.Keepthisin mindwhileusingthisdemoapplication;itisnotdesignedforusewithapplicationsthatrepetitivelyupdate flash(forexample,agameprogramthatrepeatedlyupdatesthedisplay)duetotheendurancelimits. 3.2.2CapacitiveTouchSliderDemo ThecapacitivetouchsliderdemoshowshowtousetheMSP430CapacitiveTouchSoftwareLibrary (CAPSENSELIBRARY)inanapplication.Totakefulladvantageofthisdemo,installtheMSP430Touch ProGUI(MSPTOUCHPROGUI),apowerfultoolforconfiguringcapacitivetouchapplications.Formore informationonMSP430TouchProGUIinstallationandoperation,refertotheMSP430TouchProUser's Guide(SLAU486). ThecapacitivetouchsliderdemousestheTouchProGUItodisplaythestatusoftheon-boardsliders. Thisincludeseachsliderelement,orelectrode,aswellasoverallsliderposition.Withthreeelementson eachslider,plusthepositionofeachslider,thereareeightchannelstobeviewedintheGUI.
