TWO TYPES OF DOUBLESThere are two types of doubleTAKEOUT DOUBLE – asks your partner to choose a suitPENALTY DOUBLE – tells partner you think the contract will failSlide4

TAKEOUT DOUBLEThis double can be made by either player in the partnershipIt is a double of a suit bid and it is your first opportunity to bid, orLater in the auction, when there are at least 2 unbid suits

A DOUBLE is for takeout if:Slide5

THE BASIC TAKEOUT DOUBLEYou should have a shortage in the opponent’s suitUse when you have 12+ HCP and at least 3 cards in each of the unbid suits
