MEET XAVI FORNÉ FROM ERROR! DESIGN For online version click here Hello Xavi, who are you and what do you do? My name is Xavi Forné, I was born and live in Badalona (Barcelona, Spain). I’m running a little studio with the name of Error! Design and I do posters, t-shirts and album artworks for bands. Also I play the guitar on Syberia band, and Ulmus (my solo music project). I love music and design (of course), and my cat Freyja. What gave you the idea to start making tour posters? I start doing my DIY posters 15 years ago, for my bands, friend´s shows or my record label. On 2008 I did my first commissioned posters and I start to work a lot with music artwork, like a hobby. On 2012 I left my works and just living doing posters or works for bands. I evolved to this world because I saw a very good works at gigposters.com. Your concept Error! Design became a great value to live gigs. Can you tell us more about its success? My first works was to enjoy some free shows, or just for do something for bands I love. But with the time, a lot of bands or promoters contact me to work for them, and I decided to convert in a full time job. Some gig posters are screen printed and I'm selling into my online store, or at bands merch´ table. There are very limited numbered and signed copies that people buys and save it as a collector item. With that, I'm adding new products with my artworks, like phone cases, t-shirts, mugs, tote bags… Have you met some of the artists you've been making posters for, who were they? Do you have nice souvenirs of meeting up these bands; can you tell us more about it? The most exciting thing of my work is that. To meet the bands is very really nice... and If you are a big fan of someone, it's great! Some of the bands are now my friends, and that's what makes my job beautiful. I have very good friendship with Red Fang, Russian Circles, Rocky Votolato, Sargent House Records, This Town Needs Guns... And I met a lot of them, like Anathema, Thee Silver Mt Zion, Alcest, Ólafur Arnalds, Baroness, Caspian, Chelsea Wolfe, Cult of Luna, Snuff, Dark Castle, Swing Kids... Maybe a lot of them didn't remember me! Apart from Error Design, you also play in the band Syberia and your solo project Ulmus. In the post rock scene in Spain, which bands would you recommend the Becult readers to listen to? It's hard to reply that, ´cause I'm not listening post-rock music now (just old albums that I love!). Maybe I could say that my friends from Böira are very talented post-rock band. And I know that there is a little post-rock scene in Spain, like a movement with a lot of little bands, but I don't know them. Just because they play instrumental music, they tag themselves as a post-rock band... you know? So I prefer listen bands from outside this country! Interview by Nancy Junion
