technology. The NIE is an autonomous institute affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Belgaum , Karnataka. It has the distinction of having among its alumni personalities in high positions, academicians, successful researchers, industrialists, entrepreneur and lea ders of world renown with their contributions to the development and economic prosperity of our country. The department has highly qualified faculty, with strong research background. The Institute emphasizes on bridging gap between academics and industry through development of centres of excellence in several areas

of engineering field with the support of industry partners and relevant state of the art facilities. Presently NIE has 14 centers of excellence. The Mechanical Engineering department was established in the year 1958, and is designed to provide broad competence in basic Mechanical Engineering stream and provide deeper knowledge of major selected areas of current interest. The highly qualified faculties are actively engaged in research and consultancy works in the areas of Automation, Composite Materials, Fuels and Lubri cants and Energy systems engineering The Mechanical Engineering Department

Technology. Also, this centre has been identified as one of the competency development ce ntre by the Automation Industry A ssociation (AIA). NIE is one the prestigious college selected by AIA to develop competency development ce nter in the field of A

utomation. T his will enable the M.Tech ( IAR) students of NIE to get exposure by directly linking with industry experts & obtain the practical guidance in their course and project areas. Automation Industry Association AIA) is in the phase of standardizing curriculum at National Level for all automation related courses in country. The &RPSHWHQF\'HYHORSPHQW&HQWUH CDC ) has selected NIE with the mandat e to facilitate Campus Connect Programs and provide world class education in the field. This initiative has been taken keeping in view the need of Indian Manufacturing

Segments growth. KCTU, Govt. of Karnataka has allocated Rs 50 Lakhs towards Robotic Research Centre with Articulated Robotic plat form .
