Active Voice
Active voice
is used to show that the subject of the sentence is performing or causing the action.
EXAMPLES:
I did not make that call.
The dog bit our mailman.
He has fixed our computer two times.Slide4
Passive Voice
Passive voice is used when the subject is the recipient of the action.
This is often indicated with helping verbs used with another verb
The word “by” is often another clue
Examples:
That call was not made by me.
Our mailman was bit by the dog.
My computer has been fixed two times by him

Why does it matter?
Strong writers use ACTIVE voice
Active voice is more direct and concise.
