Kindle Publishing Basic Information
Slide2Goal Setting
I’ve heard a lot of successful people talk endlessly about this… so do it.
Some tips:
Set large goals then break down how you will achieve that goal
Example:
Large goal:
make $100,000 a year in Kindle
sales
This means about $2,000 a week
After you know how much an average book is making you each week, determine how many books you will need to put out
Etc…
Slide3Niche Selection / keyword research
Make
sure you are ahead of the curve with the book ideas. Do your market research to make sure you come up with ideas that haven’t already flooded the market
EX: Native American Medicine book idea was developed just by searching google for alternative medicine techniques. There was a lot of content, but very few if no books about it on Kindle, so it made sense to have a writer do that book.
Can go to google and twitter trends to see hot topics people care
about (and then see if there are many books on that topic
)
Find Niches and book topics that will stand the tes
t of time. Don’t just push something out because it’s in vogue (Ebola, etc.)
Slide4More Niche Selection
To really amp up
business pick
good niches
This takes
market research
Evergreen books (means they are always in demand and relevant)
Niches
One approach is
to
focus on
health, holistic, natural medicine, areas where you are actually helping
people (also weight
loss
, exercise,
etc
.)
Books
that don’t do well are
broad in focus,
like a book
about the broad topic of
“weight loss
”. “Power Walking for Weight loss” would be a better, more directed book.
He likes to be in micro niches, niches that are underserved
Find sub-niches
You don’t want to compete with major publishing companies that have books out on large
topics
Slide5More Niche Selection (Keywords)
Finding the best keywords and titles is one of the most import things for Kindle Publishing
Amazon is really just a search engine for things to buy
Pick the right keywords and
you
will get on the first page of
Kindle results
Auto suggested keywords in the Amazon search bar (type part of phrase, and the rest pops up)
This is a gold mine because these phrases are what people are commonly searching for on Amazon
Example: creating a new book on coconut oil
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil for weight loss
Coconut oil hacks
Etc.
Title would be “Coconut Oil” If it is the most searched
Take the key words and give them as much exposure as possible (place keywords in the subtitle)
Subtitle would be: “Coconut oil hacks for weight loss”
Just used all of the suggested keywords!!!
Other thing for keyword research is adding keywords when you actually upload the book on Amazon
Don’t spam this section by putting keywords in there that don’t relate to your book
DON’T take a popular book title and put it in your keywords because Amazon will get mad at you (nothing trademarked or copy written
Use the auto suggest on Amazon for this, too!!
Just add up the top 7 of these and put them in your keywords box!!!
Slide6More Niche Selection (analyzing existing state of niche)
Use Amazon, itself!
Find good books that are selling well and
kinda
model them
Don’t enter niche unless top 2 or 3 books under niche are under 40,000 in paid store
This means about 4-5 copies a day
Want top 2-3 spots for your main keyword to all be under 40,000 in paid
store
Slide7Email List Building Plan
Select a Pen Name
Create a
facebook
page for the Pen Name
Create a Twitter for the Pen Name
Create a Squeeze Page using getresponse.com
Create some kind of free
content for
the lead page
Take the
above
list and put it all in one file where you will copy it from and
copy
it in below the table of contents in the book before you publish it
Slide8Building a Team
For each role you need filled, you want to try and develop a personal relationship with the people you hire. Find good people and stick with them.
Don’t be afraid to use skype or
gchat
to communicate with these people
Choose a writer
Post to freelance sites like
Odesk
and
Elance
Hire NATIVE English speakers
ONLY
Look for jack of all trades writers that can
w
rite and research very well
This will make sure that the writer keeps the material easily digestible
Make sure to tell the writers that you want your customers to be able to pick up the book and walk away with good, easily digestible knowledge on the subject after 2-3
hours
Only get
specialized, expert
writers if you are trying to write something very specific. You will have to pay more money for these experts, so try to stick with subjects that jacks of all trades can write
.
When posting on
elance
for writers put a little random question like “what is the color of the sky” to make sure people are actually reading
your
ad and are detail oriented
. Obviously, make sure they have that detail in their response.
Find someone with good ratings and a lot of experience on
Elance
Find a Graphic
Artist (probably on Fiverr.com)
Hire Virtual Assistants (I’m not there, yet)
Slide9Commission a book and introduction
You want to write short, informational, high quality books that solve a problem for your readers
Send
to the author
Write a brief outline of the book with ideas you have form market research
Send book title
and subtitle
Book Length between 7,000 and 12,000 words
Pay approximately $10 / 1,000 words
This ends up being $100 for a 10,000 word book (standard)
Be willing to pay up to $125-ish for great, proven writers
Make sure to ask for the book and a good introduction from your author
Give your author access to a
dropbox
link where they will deliver the finished product
Slide10Commission Cover Design
To keep it cheap, search for good cover designers on Fiverr.com
Send the book title, subtitle, and author name to the designer to make the cover design (
dropbox
link
)
Remember, the cover is the most important part of the book to getting initial sales
Customers will be looking at a small thumbnail on Amazon, so the title needs to be big and readable
Use high quality images that convey the
essence of the book
Fiverr.com
Graphic design >
ebook
covers and packages
Sort by high rating
Then you will get the best people doing
ebook
covers
Once you find a high rated person, you just ask yourself if their style jives with what you’re trying to convey, then go for it
.
Ge some design ideas by searching for “good
ebook
covers” on google images or
pinterest
Just find a design that you like and send them the design saying “can you use some design principals from this
ebook
cover?”
Doesn’t have to be a similar kind of book as yours
Most people on
fiverr
will do a revision for you (just hit “modify”)
Still, try to build a relationship with the people you work with, because then you will have more time to actually build the business and not having to modify everything
Things to NOT DO:
Never use the kindle cover creator
Slide11Email List and Marketing (before publishing book)
Develop a Pen Name personality. This pen name will create many books in the same category
(EVENTUALLY!!!) Create a
perma
free book (or $.99) in order to get readers on your email list and to your kindle author page
Create an Email List
Create an opt-in offer to (a free book, report, video, whatever)
Use an appropriate website to develop opt-in page (plan on using getresponse.com)
Use to connect with your customers, remind customers of promos, new books, and promote affiliate marketing using clickbank.com
Send 3-5 pieces of value to the email list you develop before you try to send them an offer or sale
Could make a free book for the express purpose of using it as the free giveaway book (Top 10 tips for whatever genre you are in… etc
.)
ALWAYS hit up the list when you release a new book within the genre
Facebook Marketing
Create a fan page for your pen name
Put a link in your book to your
facebook
page
Use this like your email list to get people to review things for you, give them content they want, give them promos, send updates of new books, and promote affiliate offers
.
Twitter
Make a twitter for your pen name
Tweet book updates
Submit books to Twitter users who promote free books (
http://www.steamfeed.com/72-places-promote-kindle-book-free
/
)
U
se
Fiverr
to get people to help promote your book on social media
Build a blog
Update blog with relevant posts
Post book updates
Link all books to your blog

Definitely use KDP Select promo
Best days for promo: start on Tuesday and end on Saturday
Always run the full 5 day KDP Select promo all of the way through (this helps build up momentum)
If your 90 days on
kdp
select is over and you can have the kindle countdown, now, then
you should:
run a Kindle countdown
deal if you have sold
well during the 90 days and gotten good
reviews and the
book is ranked 200,000 and lower in the kindle
store.
If
the book isn’t doing that well, run another free promo for 5 days
.
Slide14Publish book on createspace
Createspace.com (works with KDP
Seclect
because it’s a subsidiary of Amazon)
Publishing on demand
Upload a book to
createspace
just like on kindle.com (upload to both)
Createspace
prints the book for you (price between 7.99 and 9.99 because they actually have to print them off)
Check out Jason
Bracht’s
vides on this for more info
Can’t put books under 6,500 words on
createspace
, so always commission longer books!

Slide15PROFIT and REPEAT!!!
Moving forward, one goal is to reach the sweet spot for # of books published
Jason
Bracht
recommends 4-5 books per week, once you have the income and system set up to allow this
This will allow you to maintain good quality control as you continue to publish your
books
However, newcomers will likely want to start at 1 or 2 books a week because it can be a relatively expensive venture
Slide16Words of Wisdom
Produce good quality books!!!
This will allow your books to continue selling for a long time so you actually develop passive income
Outsource as much as possible
At first, you may not have that much money to invest, but the only way to make a lot in this business is to expand by hiring people and outsourcing your
work
Run this like a long term business, not a short term hustle
Overcoming Common
Mistakes
Writer quality not good
Fire
that
writer!!!
There are thousands of other writers out there that will work
Don’t take too much time coaching them if they suck. Get new writers!!!
Not enough reviews for books
Poor reviews
Do a better job with the covers, keywords, and writing
Fire the writer if they get bad reviews
Books aren’t selling as well as you wanted
Keep making more books!!! Just need to get good niches, good keywords, and good writers
Don’t bounce around to other stuff. Stick to the plan!!! You need to have an aggressive mindset
