For students admitted REQUIREMENTS FOR SECONDAR Y EDUCATION H S_S EDC _ B A to URI Fall 2012 T H E UN I V ERSITY O F R HOD E ISL AN D or after C ollege of H u m an S cience & S ervices School of Education The Secondary Education program outlined in the table below offers a BA from the College of H u m an Science and Services w ith a double m ajor in the C ollege of A rts and Sciences ( A& S). The A& S m ajor requires a m ini m um of 30 credit hours. M ajors are available in the following areas of teacher certification: B iology, Ch e m istry, Chinese, En glis h , F re n c h , G er m a n , H is t ory/Social Studies, Italia n , L ati n , M at h e m atics, Ph ysics, and Spanish. C ertification is also available in G eneral Science . A specific list of A& S m ajor require m ents for each teac h ing certi f icati o n in Secondary Education grades 7 - 12 is available at our w ebsite: http:// www .uri.edu/hss/education/undergrad/secondary/specialization.ht m l . Information about the Middle School and the English as a Second Language certification extensions is available at http://www.uri.edu/hss/education/programs.html . A ll prospective Secondary Educat i on students should apply to the School of Education during the spring se m ester of Y ear 2. A pplications are due annually in January. A pplicants m ust have a m ini m um c um ulative G . P .A. of 2.5 , as w ell as a 2.5 G .P. A . in the A& S m ajor . A test of acade m ic skills prior to ad m ission is required, unless m et by other criteria. A cade m ic advising is a vailable in U niversity C ollege prior to ad m ission for both the Secondary Education m ajor and the A& S m ajor.
