Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships 218 Kerr Administration Building, Corvallis OR 97331 - 2120 T 541 - 737 - 2241 | F 541 - 737 - 4494 | E financial.aid@oregonstate.edu / F INANCIAL AID 101 3 - 13 - 2012 Retaking Coursework at the undergraduate level: Student’s may repeat a class only ONCE , if they pass the course with a D or better. When a student does not pass the course, there is not a limit to the number of times they can repeat the course to obtain a passing grade. If the student’s program of study requires a higher passing grade , such as a “C”, then the student can repeat the course till the acceptable passing grade is achieved. They would still have to option to reta ke the course once, after receiving a passing grade, if for some reason they wanted a higher grade for the course. In addition, students enrolling in a recurring course number would not be considered to be retaking coursework. The number of acceptable o ccurrences for a recurring course is based on the approved limits set by the department and published as degree program requirements. Remedial Coursework: Schools may include up to one academic year’s worth of remedial courses when determining a studen t’s enrollment status for federal student aid. If the student is admitted into an eligible program and takes remedial coursework within that program, he can be considered a regular student, even if he is taking all remedial courses before taking any regula r courses. In addition, those remedial courses must be included for purposes of the student’s qualitative SAP component. SAP and GPA Calculation: My Degrees has a GPA calculator feature (see screenshot) which allows for calculation of students OSU GPA. The credits earned are pulled from the students OSU hours, NOT a combined total, so the figures you are given should be reliable for calculating OSU GPA requirements. REMEMBER: If your student is in the DPP program & taking classes at both schools, only t he OSU credits will count toward bringing this up each term! SAP PACE Calculation: When calculating PACE, ALL hours are used to calculate the 67%. Regulations required use all attempted and completed hours to calculate pace, regardless of whether the student received financial aid for the credits, and including all transfer credits. Example: if a student has attempted 135 credits & completed 78 credits they would be at 57% (78/135=57.77777). If next term they took 12 credits and completed them all , they would be at 61% (90/147=61.22448) and so on. REMEMBER: If your student is in the DPP program & taking classes at both schools, transfer and OSU credits will count toward bringing this up each term!
