welcome

Why Sixth form?Why sgs?

I started

SGS

in Y

ear 7 so I knew the structure of a typical day, the teachers and the ways of learning so I felt comfortable with everything and everyone but more than that, when I joined the Sixth Form I saw how well my peers accepted the external students and how quickly they became part of our SGS family” – Emma, Yr12 internal.

“The school offered the subjects that I wanted to do and I knew a few people that were coming here” – Milli, Yr12 external

I decided on attending Sixth Form because I knew I needed to go somewhere that would allow me to excel in both academic and social surroundings and it seemed the only appropriate place for that – Tom, Yr13 internal

“Sixth form was always the path to greater success in my eyes” –

Matthew, Yr12 externalSlide3

Entrance to KS5 must be different because:

New linear A-levels. No AS courses.

Most students will study THREE A-Levels only (unless you do old courses) You will need the greater capacity for learning.

You are locked into your courses from October 1

st

.You cannot “drop” a subject or simply pick up an AS to boost your UCAS points. We must get you on the right courses from DAY 1The process will be RIGOROUSSlide7

IF YOU DON’T MEET THE ENTRANCE CRITERIA YOU WILL NOT BE PLACED ON THE COURSE.

FINAL DECISIONSlide8

2015 Suitability Process

STEP

1: Milestones

: must be completed over the summer to get on the

course.

This must be handed in day one and will be assessed as part of the suitability judgement.  STEP 2: Assessment of milestones and one week of consolidation in lessons: to provide further information about commitment, work ethic, effort, attendance, punctuality etc.STEP 3: Entrance Assessment (s): you will be assessed on skills and knowledge gained in the milestone and first week of consolidation, which will be very little.

FINAL SUITABLITY JUDGEMENT

: based on all 3 of the above. Staff will inform us of students who are of concern as we proceed through the process. If you don’t pass this process you can’t just pick up another subject. Get it right first time.Slide9
