This painting shows men in battle and in prayer. A group of mounted warriors armed with spears and bows and arrows in the bottom right corner of the image seem to be attacking an encampment across a river, where warriors in similar armor and weaponry seem to be mounting a counterattack. In the upper left corner of the image we can see warriors on horseback ride into a camp of tents where men flee in terror. The dominance of warriors on horseback, the tent encampment, the turbans, and other clothing and headgear suggest that this is a battle in central Asia among nomadic tribes.. Chapter 12. In the first half of the thirteenth century it was also the pre-eminent centre of power in the largest land-based empire the world has ever seen. This third volume of Christoph Baumer\'s extensively praised and lavishly illustrated new history of the region is above all a story of invasion, when tumultuous and often brutal conquest profoundly shaped the later history of the globe. The author explores the rise of Islam and the remarkable victories of the Arab armies which inspired by their vital, austere and egalitarian desert faith established important new dynasties like the Seljuks, Karakhanids and Ghaznavids. A golden age of artistic, literary and scientific innovation came to a sudden end when, between 1219 and 1260, Genghiz Khan and his successors overran the Chorasmian-Abbasid lands. Dr Baumer shows that the Mongol conquests, while shattering to their enemies, nevertheless resulted in much greater mercantile and cultural contact between Central Asia and Western Europe. Diversity. Russia and . Central. Asia are made up of diverse ethnic groups, . customs. and traditions.. Some heritage groups include:. Slavic. : Indo-European group from Scandinavia that lives in . The three components of the cryosphere – glaciers, snow and permafrost – are all affected by climate change.. Glaciers of Central Asia are essentially natural reservoirs that accumulate and store water from winter and spring precipitation and release it in summer, when rainfall is low and water demand is high. In the face of ongoing climate change, the challenges related to water management and disaster risk reduction may recur and persist. .
