What Matter Is Being Cycled

The matter that is being cycled is Nitrogen. Nitrogen is one of the main building blocks of life. Every living things need nitrogen to either breath or to grow. Nitrogen can be found almost everywhere. For example it can be found in the air,in soil, in water and even in volcanic gasses. Nitrogen is one of the most important elements on earthSlide3

Explain how the Cycle works

The air is 78% percent nitrogen

Bacteria from the soil and water “fix” nitrogen from the air.

Plants obtain nitrate ions from the soil and water.

Consumers eat the plants.

Decomposers break down organisms, and enrich the soil with nitrogen compounds.,

Nitrogen compounds eventually break down into nitrogen gas and escape to the air.Slide5

Nitrogen cycleSlide6

Example of how each molecule is cycled

1.The oxygen that a doge breathe is 78% Nitrogen.

2.Grass obtains nitrogen from the soil to live and grow bigger.

3.The grass is then eaten by a rabbit and also has nitrogen from the plant.

4.Mushrooms then break up the rabbits poop into multiple compounds including nitrogen, then place the compounds back into the soil for the process to start again.Slide7

Why do we need this cycle?

We need this cycle for multiple reasons. Without nitrogen no plants will grow and they won’t produce food and without the plant there will be no consumers. Another reason we need this is so that we can breath, nitrogen takes up 78% of our atmosphere, and if we were to lose it we would be easily intoxicated with other dangerous gasses.Slide9

What would happen if this cycle stopped working?

If this cycle were to stop working then almost the entire world's’ organisms will die out all plants need nitrogen to grow. All animals need plants to lie and all decomposers need dead matter to continue to thrive. Without this everything would die off and disappear from the words surface. Slide10
