Lord, teach us the silence of humility, the silence of wisdom, the silence of love, the silence that speaks without words, the silence of faith. Teach us to silence our own hearts and minds that we may listen to the movement of the Holy Spirit within us a nd feel your presence in the very depth of our being. So with that same Spirit burning brightly within us we pray for: all those affected by the bad weather especially in Wales and for the saving work of those organisations who came to their rescue . for all those affected by division and discord for as we heard today, a house divided against itself cannot stand, for th ose crippled by broken relationships who feel crushed because all their hopes for the future have been shattered that they may trust you as a ‘mender of broken hearts . ’ for all those countries who are divided amongst themselves especially at the moment remembering all the people of Syria and those individuals and organisations who are working so sincerely to try and find a resolution which wi ll lead to peace. We identify with the sorrow of all Syrians who now see their country divided with conflict and with the potential for increasing animosity between parties. We pray for a speedy resolution to the political crisis and for a realisation b y the Syrian Government that people’s aspirations for a stake in how and by whom they are governed will not go away. May all parties in Syria realise the futility of violence, the right of peaceful protest and the need to protect civilian life in all circ umstances. Lo rd, in your mercy Hear our prayer Lord we ar e members of two families and we regularly pray for your love and protection to surround those who mean so much to us – our partners, our childr en, our siblings and our parents. Let us pray today for our wider family, the family of your church. We pray that our church family will be united in your worship , fellowship towards one another and service to the community and we give thanks for the ev idence of this service which was so evident in our street party last Monday we pray that believers throughout our church community will grow in relationship with Christ as they follow the path of discipleship we pray that visitors to the church will sense the love and compassion of Christ expressed through every member of the congregation we pray that the young people here in St Cuthbert’s will stand strong in their faith in their schools and with their friends and that you will support each and every one o f them as they journey through life and finally we pray for all those of our church family who on Thursday will be marking another milestone in their journey of faith as they present themselves for confirmation. Be with them on this journey and give them an open mind and a willing heart that they may grow in knowledge of your ways and your love for them. Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer We remember in our prayers today all those who are suffering and for those who selflessly work to ease their pain an d lighten their burdens. From our own friends and congregation we remember ...... Living God, when we feel the shaking of the foundations and try to retreat into the security of the past, teach us that you are the God of the future. Living God, when we a re tempted to despair, when events move so quickly and it seems that there is no way forward, teach us that you are the God of hope. Living God, when things happen beyond our understanding and we find that our trust in you is threatened, teach us that you are the God of all faith. Living God, in a fast - moving world, when we find our values questioned and it is not easy to perceive what is right, teach us that you are the God of all wisdom. And so may we learn to live each day in company with you and to fol low wherever you will lead us. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
