In Language Arts class we have talked about how awesome quotes can be because they say so much in so few words. They are “catchy” and they are fun and they are easy to remember. Slide3

We know that the WAY a quote looks on the page can convey just as much meaning as the words themselves.Slide4

We know that the WAY a quote looks on the page can convey just as much meaning as the words themselves. For example, check this out: Slide5
Slide6

In the “creative” quote you just saw, a person had to figure out a way to write that quote to best show its meaning. All the words look different: different sizes, different styles, etc. The WAY it’s written is very important to the meaning. Someone had to be creative and THINK of how to do that with the words. Here’s another quote we looked at in class: Slide7
Slide8

In that quote, a person had to decide which words to emphasize, which words to color, what sizes the different words should be, and which words to put on which lines. Someone had to be creative and THINK about how the overall quote should appear on paper and how to arrange everything. Slide9

Let’s look at another one from our class: Slide10
Slide11

In this quote you just saw, a person had to come up with a design to best convey the meaning of the words. Think about how the colors, the design, and the shape of each word helps to reflect the meaning of the quote itself. Here it is one more time: Slide12
Slide13

Here’s an example of what NOT to do. You can be WAY more creative than this quote: Slide14
Slide15

That quote you just saw is a wonderful quote. It’s meaningful. BUT--- isn’t there a creative way to really show the message? Isn’t there something you could do with the words and the colors and the design to truly make that quote meaningful? YES!!!Slide16

Choose a quote that is meaningful to you (not one of mine!!)

Write it in different ways, emphasizing different words, and playing with the design. You can do this with pencil at first. Maybe create 2-3 versions of your quote. Just have fun and sketch it out.

Ask others which one has the most impact.

What to Do:Slide17

Next, choose your favorite version.

Think about what colors to use. In Language Arts, we’ve talked about how

have symbolic meaning sometimes. Use that to your advantage.

Finally, create your quote in your own special, creative way on your plain white paper.

Be ready to share with your class on Friday!

What to Do:Slide18

Which words are most important to me?

Which colors should I use?

How should I actually write the quote?

I need to use the WHOLE page… how should I do that?

What other designs should I include?

How does this quote relate to me?

Think about…
