Our history is

a catalyst

for our future . . .Slide2
Slide3

In this symbol, artist, Michael Dominquez, a Cuban Disciple, reflects on the heritage and linkages of Disciples Women.

The lines indicate the continuous flow and interconnectedness of all women.Slide4

The Cross

The foundation for all Disciples Women is our faith in God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Cross is the pivot-point around which all our beliefs and activities revolve.

The Cross becomes the first element in our symbol.Slide5

CWF

The second component of our symbol recognizes our legacy and heritage of the Christian Women’s Fellowship.

Our future as Disciples Women is built upon our heritage and the faith and vision of our foremothers.

In 1874, Caroline Neville

Pearre organized women of the church for mission work, creating the Christian Woman’s Board of Missions

. Jessie Trout, in 1949, birthed the Christian Women’s Fellowship.Slide6

Jesse

Trout, a Disciples missionary who had served in Japan, was one of the many great leaders meeting in 1949 to create Christian Women’s Fellowship with the purpose ~ “To develop all women in Christian living and Christian service.”

Caroline

Pearre

answered God’s call that had her asking where to find a leader to organize women of the church for missionary work. Her prayer had been for God to send a leader and when a question formed in her mind, “Why cannot you do it?” She felt a great rush of joy and said aloud,

“I will!” Slide7

Outstretched arms

The

third component of the symbol is the outstretched arms of love and compassion as we take God’s message to women around the world, i.e. Woman-to-Woman Worldwide.Disciples Women are strong in our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, our dedication to the church and our relationship with our families and communities.

We are strong because of our faith.Slide8

Energy-filled arms

The energy-filled arms swinging up in a gleeful arc indicate the joy of being a Christian and a woman in the Disciples faith family.

The joy permeates our lives as we serve our Lord in mission, in our church and in our world community.Slide9

We are united.

Disciples Women are a sisterhood of thousands who embrace others.

We are a sisterhood of young and old.

A sisterhood who is nurturing and all inclusive.A rainbow of pigment; a chorus of languages. This is the meaning of the final component of our symbol.Slide10
