What is Guerriilla Marketing?

“Guerrilla Marketing” is an advertising strategy that focuses on low-cost unconventional marketing tactics that yield maximum results

. The

original term was made by Jay Conrad Levinson in the book ‘Guerrilla Advertising’. The term guerrilla marketing was inspired by guerrilla warfare which is a form of irregular warfare and relates to the small tactic strategies used by armed civilians. Many of these tactics includes ambushes, sabotage, raids and elements of surprise. Much like guerrilla warfare, guerrilla marketing uses the same sort of tactics in the marketing industry.Slide4

Here are some images of Guerrilla Marketing. Like the roulette table bag conveyer belt, the Simpsons Movie Escalator and the UP bus stop with the balloons on it!

History

Advertising can be dated back to 4000 BC where the early Egyptians used papyrus to make sales messages and wall posters. What we consider traditional advertising and marketing slowly developed over the centuries but never really boomed until the early 1900s.

It wasn’t till the late 1980s and early 1990s that cable television started seeing advertising messages. The most memorable pioneer during this time was MTV where they focused on getting the consumer to tune in for the advertising message rather than it being the by-product of a featured show.Slide7

Opinions of examples

My opinions of the examples in this presentation are that they:All have different target audience's.

All are different products.

Some are aimed at kids, eg The UP bus stop, the Simpsons escalator and the big McDonalds slushy. Some are aimed at

adults, eg The beer holder, the red carpet and the roulette bag carrier.Slide8

My Guerrilla Marketing

This is my “mocked up” Guerrilla marketing, I have chosen the NFL team; The New England Patriots Website. I have decided that this product would have to be in America for it to work. I have got images off the website and have added them onto a tree which people would see whilst walking past it or whilst waiting on a bench. I got the images and then cut them out using the cut out studio on Serif

X5. The target audience will be American football fans or people that are fond of playing American sports. I think this will work because it will draw people in to look at this because it will be something that they know of!
