Coverage of USPTO granted patents and published patent applications is from 1790. EPO and WIPO coverage is from 1978, China from 1984, Germany from 1877, and Canada from 1863.
Google Patents provides links to Google Scholar and Google Books through the Find Prior Art interface if “Include non-patent literature (Google Scholar)” box is selected on Google patents main page.Patents in foreign languages are machine translated to English making them searchable using English keywords.

Searching a CPC code includes all child codes.An algorithm groups results by CPC codes thought to give you better chance of narrowing down your results.
