The Crystal Caves of Bermuda

Alexa LaffertySlide2

I visited The Crystal Caves of Bermuda last summer. These amazing underground caves were very beautiful and very interesting to see. The caves are made up of stalactites and stalagmites, and on the bottom lies a deep, clear, blue lake.Slide3

As you descend into the cave the first thing you notice is all the the crystals hanging from the ceiling. These are called stalactites and most commonly occur in limestone caves such as these. Slide4

These stalactites vary in size and shape depending on their age. These stalactites grow extremely slow(not even a quarter of an inch a year). You can also see the blue lake in this picture.Slide5

In this picture you can see just how clear the water on the bottom of the cave is. You can see straight through to the stalagmites growing up from the floor of the cave. Keep in mind the water is about 55 feet deep. Slide6

These stalagmites can even grow underwater and sometimes can rise up out of the water to meet a stalactite. Although, this takes many many years.Slide7

Photographed here are stalactites meeting stalagmites. Slide8

Overall, this was a very interesting trip and I would recommend visiting The Crystal Caves of Bermuda to anyone.
