Access to Inappropriate Material

Specifically, as required by CIPA, blocking shall be applied to visual depictions of material deemed obscene or child pornography, or to any material deemed harmful to minors.

Inappropriate Network Usage

To the extent practical, steps shall be taken to promote the safety and security of users of the HCSD online computer network when using electronic mail, chat rooms, instant messaging, and other forms of direct electronic communications.

Education, Supervision, and Monitoring

It shall be the responsibility of all members of the HCSD staff to educate, supervise, and monitor appropriate usage of the online computer network and access to the Internet in accordance with CIPA policies.

You must view all videos in their entirety before showing them or allowing your students to view them, regardless of the grade level that you teach.

Preview video content to ensure it supports the instructional program and relates to lesson objectives.

Make sure projector is turned off/video muted when previewing

Students may not use staff members’ computers or login ID’s to search for YouTube videos online.

This

level of access is only available to teachers, not students. If you abuse it, you will lose it!

Greater use of YouTube by teachers throughout the district will increase network traffic, which may result in choppy video quality.

HCSD currently blocking many media streaming sites, not because they are inappropriate, but because the network is quickly becoming overloaded

With the addition of wireless, over 1200 devices were added to the network

When showing a video in class,

use one

of the following to eliminate ads and comments:- Download the video- Shrink the page so that only the video is visible.- Paste a YouTube URL to http://www.safeshare.tv/ to view your video without ads or distractions –this site also provides more extensive filtering.

Due to one reason or another, software installation has not occurred on all computers, therefore you may not have access on all computers

If you cannot get to YouTube on your teacher computer, you will need to include your computer name in your email to the helpdesk. At the computer login screen, look for the computer name.
