Overview of:Slide4
University adopted CLA scanning licence in 2006 and developed the Digitisation Service with two workflows
:to scan materials for the VLE in compliance with legislation (CLA Scans).to provide all “required reading” in readable format for students who are blind or have low vision (CVIP Scans).Disability Service developed the Alt-format workflowcapacity to provide all “required reading” as readable e-texts, on time, despite removal of DSA funding for transcription.2010 - introduced print assessments as an extension to needs assessment for visually impaired students.
2012 - alert emails introduced Survey CVIP students bi-annually on service

CLA services academic departments in making available copyright compliant materials for VLE and 2. CVIP services required reading for blind and visually impaired students and those traditionally covered by CVIP, mobility impaired, difficulty carrying books and or page turning difficulties.Slide37

Marrakesh TreatyBookshareLoad2learn rebranded as RNIB BookshareBook repositoriesSlide40
The treaty, signed in Marrakesh on 27 June 2016, enables blind organisations in different countries to share books in accessible formats (braille, large prints and audiobooks), without duplicating production. This was previously prevented by copyright laws.
https://www.euractiv.com/section/digital-agenda/news/books-without-borders-give-blind-new-opportunities/ Once the treaty becomes law, and once the U.S. ratifies the treaty, all Bookshare books will be available to members in countries that have ratified the treaty!http://www.wipo.int/treaties/en/ip/marrakesh/ Marrakesh TreatySlide41
It’s good because it's practical to make your own choices. It curves round you.
Holding the iPad is more relaxed than sitting on the computer screen. I'd rarely used Read and Write Gold to read an academic paper, cos I just find it very hard to sit at the screen and be reading a book. It's a bit weird. [The] best thing probably is adding notes in and highlighting, so you can go back and look at it. It's like having little stick-it notes.Focus Group – some feedbackSlide42
