X-RAY Instructions For Use. Page 7INTRODUCTIONCongratulations on your purchase ofan X-RAY 24 BIT CD player. The X-RAY uses the latest 24 bitdelta-sigma DAC technology along withclock and data re-timing circuitry and ahighly stable CMOS oscillator masterclock to achieve an excellent technical andsonic performance. The X-RAY's excep-tionally low jitter gives both improvedsound quality and very consistent resultsfrom disc to disc. In addition, for thismodel Musical Fidelity developed asophisticated linear phase 5 pole analoguefilter which is situated after the Digital toAnalog converter to remove nearly alldigital artefacts above the audio band. This greatly reduces the spurious noiseand aliasing breakthrough inherent in theCD process giving improved sound qualityand consistent results with a wide range ofamplifiers.Place your CD player on a stable, hori-zontal, vibration-free surface where there isno risk of it falling over or being subjectedto vibrations. Avoid placing your CD playernext to radiators or in direct sunlight.Protect your CD player from humid-ity. Avoid placing it under a window. Do notplace any containers filled with water on theCD player e.g. flower vases or pottedplants. If water does enter the CD player, immediately pull out the mains plug from thewall socket and inform your dealer, whoshould then check the set before you use itagain.- Liquid entering the CD playercould cause dangerous short-circuitswhich, in the worst case, could cause afire. If you move your CD player from acold place to a warm place, leave it switchedoff for a few hours before using it again. Con-densation could form inside the unit and mustbe allowed to evaporate.CLEANINGBefore cleaning the CD player alwaysswitch off the main switch and remove themains plug from the wall outlet. Clean thehousing and the remote control unit using amoist cloth. We do not advise that you useany solvents, white spirits, thinners, etc. asthey could damage the surface finish of theunit.AUDIO CONNECTIONThe CD player should be connectedto an amplifier (CD or Aux input) by an in-terconnect cable with RCA/phono typeconnectors. This is connected to the Leftand Right AUDIO OUTPUT sockets on therear panel of the CD player. Alternatively, you can use the DIGITAL OUTPUTS (Co-axial or Optical) for connection to an out-board Digital-to-Analogue converter or dig-ital amplifier.NOTES ON USING COMPACT-DISCSAlways hold discs by the edges andmake sure they remain clean. Do not touchthe surface. Do not stick any paper or ad-hesive tape to either side of the disc. Keepdiscs away from direct sunlight and heatsources, such as radiators. Do not leavediscs in a car which is parked in direct sun-light, since the temperature inside the car canbecome extremely high. Clean discs with acloth before playing them. Do not use anysolvents such as benzene, thinners, commer-cially available cleaners or antistatic sprayintended for analogue discs, to clean yourcompact discs. After playing, always storea disc in its case again.INSTALLATION X-RAY Instructions For Use. Page 8The legend 'DISC' will light up in the dis-play to show that the CD player is ready toload a disc.Once the drawer is fully out, insert theCD with the labelled side facing upwardsand then either press the OPEN/CLOSEor PLAY/PAUSE button to close the trans-port drawer again. If PLAY/PAUSE is pressed the CDplayer will go straight into playback mode, the arrow indicating playback will appearand the current track, index point andelapsed track time will be displayed as pre-viously shown. If OPEN/CLOSE is pressed the CDplayer scans the contents of the disc as soonas the disc compartment is closed and amessage similar to that following, will ap-pear on the display: The 'DISC' legend indicates that a discis loaded, the left-hand digits indicate thenumber of tracks on the CD (12 in this ex-ample). Condensation can form on the lensand on other parts inside the unit. If the CDplayer is operated under these conditions, the laser beam may not be able to read thedisc. In this case you should remove theCD, close the disc compartment and leavethe unit switched on for an hour or so. Thiswill allow sufficient time for the moisture toevaporate and you will then be able to useyour CD player again.LOADING AND PLAYINGCOMPACT DISCSAfter switching on the CD player, thefollowing is displayed on the display as themachine begins to search for a disc: If there is a disc loaded, after 3-4 sec-onds the X-RAY will automatically startplaying and information similar to that fol-lowing will be displayed in the display. The first digit indicates the number ofthe currently playing track, the secondsmaller digit indicates the current index point(see explanation later) and the final digitsindicate the elapsed playing time for the cur-rent track (2 minutes 1 second in this ex-ample).However, if no disc is loaded the X-RAY will display the following after ap-proximately 3-4 seconds. In this case, press the “OPEN/CLOSE” button to open the transportdrawer and insert the desired CD. X-RAY Instructions For Use.
