2. What is Medical Assistance in Dying? In recent years many countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, and Canada, have adopted legislation that allows people to end their own life. Often people choose this option of ending their life because of ongoing, irreversible, and incurable illness or suffering. A common term for this is ‘medical assistance in dying’ (MAiD), although many different terms exist to describe this action, such as ‘physician assisted death’ or ’euthanasia’.We know that many persons who undertake MAiD also donate their bodies to medical science.https://www.thesudburystar.com/news/local-news/few-in-sudbury-have-used-medical-assistance-in-dyingPhoto Shutterstock

3. The Use of MAiD Bodies in AnatomyShould programs that accept donors be able to choose whether to accept MAiD body donors on moral or ethical grounds?Should students and staff be informed about the origin of the bodies they are using? For instance, should staff and students have bodies of MAiD origin identified?Should students and staff be able to opt out of working with a MAiD donor, if they morally object to the process of MAiD?Is the acceptance and use of MAiD bodies by donor programs different to accepting suicide victims that had been previously registered as body donors? How should people reconcile their personal beliefs about MAiD with their professional roles and responsibilities?Pinterest.comhttps://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30848063/https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31696652/
