NRS-FIA Regional Management Team Meeting Training session by Scott PughDecember 7, 2016 DATIM Advanced EVALIDator Dashboards

FIA Data and Tools - Forest Inventory and Analysis National Program ... http://www.fia.fs.fed.us/tools-data/

DATIM – Design and Analysis Toolkit for Inventory and Monitoringhttp://www.fs.fed.us/emc/rig/DATIM/index.shtml Focus today is on two DATIM components: ATIM - Analysis Tool for Inventory and Monitoring SIT – Spatial Intersection Tool

DATIM version 7.0 (summer 2017) – Features Report Wizard

Advanced EVALIDator (partial list, missing API) EVALIDatorPC in MS-Access ( http://apps.fs.fed.us/fiadb-downloads/datamart.html http://www.fia.fs.fed.us/tools-data/tutorials_training/index.php Access SQL and VBA code available for learning FIADB and customization (add estimation and summary variables) EVALIDator on the Web ( http:// apps.fs.fed.us/Evalidator/evalidator.jsp ) Use “Trend analysis” for “Row variable” to generate SQL and use text area to filter with “input additional where clause” constraints FIADB User Guides ( http://www.fia.fs.fed.us/library/database-documentation/ ) Many Oracle SQL examples are available FIADB SQL query box – coming soon! ( http://zlphefido001.phe.fs.fed.us/EvalidatorGRM/fiadb_sql.jsp ) Query FIADB using your own SQL script. Grab scripts out of FIADB user guides or Web Evalidator (add “ fs_fiadb .” as prefix to tables if not present in example)

EVALIDator Version 1.6.0.03Revision date: July 21, 2015 Step 1 of 3 (choosing the retrieval type and estimate type) … http://apps.fs.fed.us/Evalidator/evalidator.jsp EVALIDator on the Web

From data to info in 7-clicks

Output

More than just tables - web maps

EVALIDator additional SQL–“experts only please”  … a nd plot.ecosubcd like ‘%212%’ Example: summarize by ecoregion 212 versus ecoregion sections or subsections as available by default in EVALIDator

Why use the additional sql text box? Filters for ratio estimates require the sql text box Repetitive use of a query with a number of filter constraints Spatial filters (i.e., select by user defined polygon by specifying polygon vertices). Made easier in upcoming EVALIDator release Filters defined by a whole other query Rare cases where a simple filter is required but not available in the default drop down lists

1. Create a subquery to limit your area retrieval to only those plots that have a live ash tree and 0 < (select count(*) from fs_fiadb.tree where tree.plt_cn = plot.cn and tree.spcd in (541, 542, 543, 544, 545, 546, 547, 548, 549, 5491) and tree.statuscd = 1)2. Limit to lands that meet RPA definition of forest land.and not (16.4042 > nvl((select avg ( nvl ( atree.actualht , 0)) from fs_fiadb.tree atree where atree.plt_cn = plot.cn and atree.statuscd = 1 and atree.dia >= 5.0), 0) and cond.fortypcd in (180, 182, 184, 185, 970, 971, 972, 973, 974, 975, 976) and substr(plot.ecosubcd , 1, 4) in (' 311', ' 313', ' 315', ' 321', ' 322', ' 331', ' 332', ' 341', ' 342') and cond.siteclcd = 7) Novel examples of additional SQL where clauses

FIADB SQL Version 1.6.1.01 – coming soon!Forest Service Intranet at http ://zlphefido001.phe.fs.fed.us/EvalidatorGRM/fiadb_sql.jsp

In EVALIDator on the Web, the following summary variables are only available as row classifications:Artificial regen species, congressional district, county code and name, county group, EMAPHEX, ecoregion section, ecoregion subsection, forest type, forest type field call, forest type group, hydrological unit code 8, national forests: ALP, SoForFuturesSubReg , stand origin species, state code, unit code Inventory year is only available as a column classification. So, summarizing by two of these variables in a single table is not possible in EVALIDator. The FIADB SQL box can run custom SQL to output summaries including one or more these classification variables in one table.FIADB SQL

Examples to run in FIADB SQL text box

Example 2: Largest trees by species name and diameter measured in DE in 2015select r.common_name,dia from fs_fiadb.tree t,fs_fiadb.ref_species r where r.spcd=t.spcd and statecd=10 and invyr=2015 and t.dia>20 order by dia desc …

Can be hard to credit the Forest Service when buried under the proprietors advertising. **Steep learning curve but very customizable catering to multiple devices, meeting 508 compliance, and easier to credit the Forest Service. **Can be a steep learning curve or mostly use the out-of-the-box tools. Spatial Data Services (SDS)http://www.fia.fs.fed.us/tools-data/spatial/ SDS team provides several services, such as:Helping clients acquire and use the public FIA database, which includes perturbed plot coordinates to protect landowner's identities Performing spatial summaries of FIA variables for a particular area of interest Performing spatial overlays between plots and geospatial data provided by our customers Providing facilities where a customer may visit and perform their own analysis of FIA data. Spatial Data Services will review the results to insure they comply with the law.  SDS provides a connection between researchers and FIA data. We work to provide customers with the information they need in a way that does not compromise the security of the plot locations. We also provide advice and guidance on the proper use of FIA data.
