Gospel: Matthew 13:1-53 Slide2

The Mishkan (Tabernacle)Slide3

Introduction to the MishkanYHVH commanded Moses to build a Tabernacle. (Exodus 25:1-9) What purpose did each item have, that was built for the Service of the Tabernacle.

Was the Tabernacle different from the

“tent of meeting.”

What was the primary purpose of the Mishkan, and why did YHVH want

to dwell among his

people. (

Exodus 25:22) Slide4

Introduction to the MishkanEver wonder why YHVH began stirring Torah inside of you? Of the 7 Billion people that live on this planet, only a tiny remnant actually take the time on a regular basis to study God’s word. And when you take that number, and even smaller number actually study the foundation of His scripture, His Torah.

Deuteronomy 7:

“For you are a people holy to the

Lord

your God. The

Lord

your God has chosen you

to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

It was not because you were more in number than any other people

that the

Lord

set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples,

but it is because the

Lord

loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers

, that the

Lord

has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt

.

The reason why you are here today, is because thousands of years ago, He made a promise to our ancestors. It’s not by chance that you are learning about “His House” either here on the Sabbath or listening on the internet.

He choose you before you were born to learn about something so important – the place where YHVH presence would reside with His people.

In this last generation before His return –

His House will be built again in Jerusalem.

Do you completely understand the purpose and the activities surrounding the Daily Temple Service.

Let the journey begin

.Slide5

The Glory of YHVH

Ezekiel 43:

4

As the glory of the

Lord

entered the temple by the gate facing east,

the Spirit lifted me up and brought me

into the inner

court (

Azarah

)

;

and behold, the

glory of

YeHoVaH

filled

the temple.

While the man was standing beside me, I heard one speaking to me out of the temple,

and he said to me, “Son of man,

this is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my feet

, where

I will dwell in the midst of the people of Israel forever

.

And

the

house of Israel

shall no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoring and by the dead bodies

[

b

]

of their kings at their high places,

So before we read any verse from this Portion – our Elohim is telling Israel – He’s coming back and His Glory will again return to His Mikdash.

No longer we, “the House of Israel” – will bring mixed worship into His presence. For His throne will be among us again,

and there will be Kadesh (holiness or being set apart)

once again.Slide6

The Glory of YHVHJeremiah 17:

12

A

glorious throne set on high from the

beginning

 is the place of our

sanctuary (

Mikdash)

.

13

O

Lord

, the hope of Israel

, all

who forsake you shall be put to shame

; those

who turn away from you

[

c

]

shall be written in the earth

, for

they have forsaken the

Lord

, the fountain of living water

.

From the very beginning His throne room was set up inside of His Heavenly sanctuary.

The one that Israel would build in the Wilderness would be a

blueprint of the Heavenly Sanctuary

– and very possible a blueprint of the one in the Garden of Eden.

If you notice the word for Sanctuary is Mikdash – the root of this word is Kodesh:

Kedushah

- consecrated

. This gives us another clue of the purpose for His Sanctuary. Slide7

The Glory of YHVHGenesis 2:

So God blessed the seventh day and made

it

holy (Kodesh),

because on it God rested from all his work that

he

had done in creation

.

Do you realize, this is the

only time in the entire book of Genesis,

that the word Holy is used.

Abraham, nor Noach or Enoch, neither Jacob, or anyone of all the patriarchs and people that are introduced in Bereshith or ever referred to as Holy.

The next time the word Holy is mentioned is in Exodus:

Exodus 3:

Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is

holy

(Kodesh)

ground

.”

And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God

.

So let’s take a look at how important this word Holy is. Sabbath, which we are allowed to partake in His rest.

The Burning Bush, the place where the Angel of YHVH, called Moses into bringing out His promised people.

Now, the very place where the Glory of YHVH presence will place His throne is referred to as His Holy House – Mikdash.

So is understanding YHVH’s Holiness important?

Our journey in studying His Tabernacle is centered on

learning the pattern of Holiness in our lives. Slide8

Establishing His GovernmentSlide9

First Instructions

Exodus 24:

Then Moses and Aaron,

Nadab

, and

Abihu

, and

seventy of the elders of Israel

went up,

10

and they saw the God of Israel. There was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness.

11

And he did not lay his hand on the chief men

of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank

.

Just in these couple verses are a tremendous amount of foundational understanding.

When it comes to the Temple or Tabernacle – these are commandments directly from YHVH himself. This is not rabbinic teachings, or commentaries, but commandments that directly affect our lives.

Of

the 613 commandments, 279 are directly related to the Tabernacle/Temple.

Before one pole is established in the Tabernacle – we have the

establishment of the Sanhedrin

. From about 1450 BCE, to around 356 CE, the Sanhedrin was established as an extension of YHVH’s government in Israel. They were there to interpret for the people the very commandments are given.

Remember how serious the Apostle Paul took it, when he was addressing the head of the Sanhedrin.

As you will see, we the House of Israel, nor the Rabbis, or anyone

can make changes to this pattern

that is being established for Israel on this Sapphire Road into His presence. Slide10

First InstructionsBefore Moses climbs to the top to receive God’s instruction – Notice the level of

Kedushah “

And he did not lay his hand on the chief

men”

John 20:

17

Yeshua

said to her, “

Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father

; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and

to

My God and your God

.’”

AS we begin to study scripture – the level of Holiness that our Elohim has, is beyond our comprehension. However, we are given clues here on how to conduct ourselves in His Presence.

12

The

Lord

said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I

may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.

13

So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God.

14

And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and

Hur

are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.”Slide11

First Instructions15 Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

16

The glory of the

Lord

dwelt on

Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days

. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud.

17

Now the appearance of the glory of the

Lord

was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel.

18

Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And

Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights

.

We see that Moses went up the mountain on two different occasions. On this time, He was given the instructions for the Mishkan (Tabernacle). In chapter 31, he returns to receive the actual written commandment on stone.

On this ascent to the Mountain, the sages understood that the very blueprint of the Tabernacle, and the eventual Temple were given to Moses. Quite possible He was given a glimpse of the Heavenly Tabernacle, and it

was seared in his mind exactly the dimensions re

quired to build the very dwelling place of the Most High. Slide12

The Tavnit (Blueprint)Slide13

The Tavnit (Blueprint)Exodus 25: 8 And let them make me a sanctuary (Mikdash)

,

that I may dwell in their midst. 9 Exactly as I show you concerning the

pattern (Tavnit or Blueprint)

of the

tabernacle (Mishkan

),

and of all its furniture, so you shall make it

.

So YHVH commands Moses, to make a “Holy Dwelling place” after the blueprint He had given Moses over those 40 days.

What is interesting, that by referring to it as a Mikdash – this is establishing a precedent for a future Temple structure in Jerusalem. Not just a temporary tabernacle. Slide14

The Tavnit (Blueprint)1 Chronicles 28:

10

Consider now, for the

Lord

has chosen you to

build a house for the

sanctuary (Mikdash)

;

be strong, and do it.”

11

Then

David gave his son Solomon the

plans – (Tavnit or blueprints)

for the vestibule, its houses, its treasuries, its upper chambers, its inner chambers, and the place of the mercy seat;

12

and the plans for all that he had by the Spirit, of the courts of the house of the

Lord

, of all the chambers all around, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries for the dedicated things;

13

also for the division of the priests and the Levites, for all the work of the service of the house of the

Lord

, and for all the articles of service in the house of the

Lord

.

14

He gave

gold by weight for

things

of gold, for all articles used in every kind of service; also

silver

for all articles of silver by weight, for all articles used in every kind of service;

15

the weight for the lampstands of gold, and their lamps of gold, by weight for each lampstand and its lamps; for the lampstands of silver by weight, for the lampstand and its lamps, according to the use of each lampstand. Slide15

The Tavnit (Blueprint)16 And by weight

he gave

gold for the tables of the showbread, for each table, and silver for the tables of silver;

17

also pure gold for the forks, the basins, the pitchers of pure gold, and the golden bowls—

he gave gold

by weight for every bowl; and for the silver bowls,

silver

by weight for every bowl;

18

and refined gold by weight for the altar of incense, and for the construction of the chariot, that is, the gold cherubim that spread

their wings

and overshadowed the ark of the covenant of the

Lord

.

19

“All

this,

said David,

the

Lord

made me understand in writing

, by

His

hand upon me, all the works of

these

plans (Tavnit)

.”

So just as Moses was given a blueprint in writing so to was David. For this reason, no preacher, rabbi, or teacher can make any changes to these plans.

Why didn’t the Jews begin building a Temple in 1967.

- nobody was ready.

There was so much to understand, that we would need 50 years of preparation since unlike the days of Moses in Mt. Sinai, or King David in Jerusalem – YHVH has been working with hundreds in the preparation of this task. Some in this very room will be involved in this purpose. Slide16

The Tavnit (Blueprint)Being Mentally and Emotionally ready for the challenge.

Once the Third Temple is built, what is the most important undeniable truth that will follow?

1 Chronicles 28:

20

And David said to his son Solomon, “

Be strong and of good courage

, and do

it;

do not fear nor be dismayed

, for the

Lord

God—my God—

will be

with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you,

until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the

Lord

.

Ever wonder why this warning is given?

The

one thing that the adversary will attempt at every opportunity, is to stop this work. For those of us who begin to study this, and be part of this endeavor, the enemy will use every trick in his book to stop this work. Slide17

The Tavnit (Blueprint)Ezra

4: 1

 Now when the

adversaries of Judah and Benjamin

heard that the descendants of the captivity

were building the temple

of the

Lord

God of Israel,

they came to Zerubbabel and the heads of the fathers’

houses,

and said to them, “

Let us build with you, for we seek your God as you

do;

and we have sacrificed to Him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us here.”

But Zerubbabel and

Jeshua

and the rest of the heads of the fathers’

houses

of Israel said to them,

“You may do nothing with us to build a house for our God; but we alone will build to the

Lord

God of Israel

, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.”

Then the people of the land tried to discourage the people of Judah.

They troubled them in building,

and hired counselors against them

to frustrate their purpose all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.Slide18

Who is to build the Tabernacle?Slide19

Building the Tabernacle

Exodus

25: 1

The Lord said to Moses, 2 “

Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution.

From every man whose heart moves him you shall

receive the contribution

for me. 3 And this is the contribution that you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, 4 blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats' hair, 5 tanned rams' skins, goatskins,

[1]

acacia wood, 6 oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, 7 onyx stones, and stones for setting, for the ephod and for the

breastpiece

.

YHVH calls everyone of us from the seed of Abraham to help in the building of his Mikdash. Our contributions or “

Terumah

” – are offerings that are lifted up to Him for such an important endeavor.

I hope that everyone who hears this teaching becomes consumed like never before with something that has only taken place three times in the Six thousand years since man was cast from the Garden of Eden. Slide20

Building the Tabernacle

1. [An. 1532] Hereupon

the Israelites rejoiced at what they had seen and heard

of their conductor; and were not wanting in diligence according to their ability: for they brought silver, and gold, and brass, and of the best sorts of wood, and such as would not at all decay by putrefaction: camels hair also, and sheep-skins; some of them dyed of a blue

colour

, and some of a scarlet: some brought the flower for the purple

colour

, and others for white; with wool dyed by the flowers aforementioned: and fine linen, and precious stones; which those that use costly ornaments set in ouches of gold: they brought also a great quantity of spices. For of these materials did

Moses build the Tabernacle: which did not at all differ from a moveable and ambulatory temple

. Now when these things were brought together with great diligence;

for every one was ambitious to further the work

, even beyond their ability; he set architects over the works, and this by the command of God: and indeed the very same which the people themselves would have chosen had the election been allowed to them. Slide21

Building the TabernacleNow their names are set down in writing in the sacred Books; and they were these:

Besaleel

, the son of

Uri

, of the tribe of Judah, the grandson of Miriam, the sister of their conductor; and

Aholiab

the son of

Ahisamach

, of the tribe of Dan.

Now the people went on with what they had undertaken with so great alacrity, that Moses was obliged to restrain them,

by making proclamation, that what had been brought was sufficient; as the artificers had informed him. So they fell to work upon the building of the Tabernacle. Moses also informed them, according to the direction of God, both what the measures were to be, and its largeness; and how many vessels it ought to contain, for the use of the sacrifices. The women also were ambitious to do their parts, about the garments of the priests, and about other things that would be wanted in this work, both for ornament, and for the divine service itself

.

(Josephus in Antiquities of the Jews)

So are you getting a picture –

there was excitement in the air.

This was not a simple building project, for remember Israelites were involved with many projects in Egypt. This was different – this was about the very presence of YHVH living among them. Slide22

Building the TabernacleWho was responsible for building the Temple – everyone who the Spirit of Elohim had spoken into their hearts –

Deuteronomy 12:

“But you shall seek the place where the

Lord

your God chooses, out of all your tribes, to put His name for His dwelling place; and there you shall go.

There you shall take your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the heave offerings of your hand, your vowed offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks.

And there you shall eat before the

Lord

your God, and you shall rejoice in all to which you have put your hand, you and your households, in which the

Lord

your God has blessed you

.

Building His Mikdash was with the complete knowledge that YHVH dwelling place would be seen by everyone throughout the entire camp.

Will our desire and excitement match those that had built the First Tabernacle

?Slide23

Building the TabernacleIsrael found purpose that day in the Building of God’s Sanctuary. There was excitement that ran throughout the whole camp.

Can you get as excited for the rebuilding of the Third Temple, or are we going to be like the Samaritans who try to challenge it at every angle.

In the building of the second Temple, Samaritans who were of a mixed multitude, but took on many of the traditions of Israel. They mixed the Holy and the profaned, just as their predecessor, the House of Israel or Ten tribes had done before. During the exile of the 10 tribes, and in the reign of Hezekiah – some from the 10 tribes had come back into Jerusalem, and they influenced the Jews so much that

Asherah

poles, and other pagan practices were brought in near where the presence of YHVH would be.

A precedent was established, that only those of the Southern Kingdom who truly understood what this Temple represented – could be involved in this undertaking.

As we read the following verses –

keep in context the warning given to the 10 tribes

in 589/590 BCE, and the warning to us today – let’s take a look: Slide24

Building the TabernacleEzekiel 43:

10

“Son of man,

describe the temple to the house of Israel

, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; and

let them measure the

pattern (Tavnit)

.

11

And if they are ashamed of all that they have done, make known to them

the

design (Tavnit)

of the temple

and its arrangement, its exits and its entrances, its entire design and all its ordinances, all its forms and all its laws. Write

it

down in their sight, so

that they may keep its whole design

and all its ordinances, and perform them.

12

This

is

the law of the temple

: The whole area surrounding the mountaintop

is

most holy. Behold, this

is

the

law of the temple

.

A day is coming when this Temple will be built again – Ezekiel a Priest from the Southern Kingdom – is speaking to you and I today. Don’t mess with the pattern that our Brother Judah will begin to lay out. Respect the fact that for 50 years they have been getting ready for the day when the Mikdash would be raised again.

Don’t change the pattern – for this is

YeHoVaH’s

Torah (Instruction) of His House – not our beliefs, or something Rabbinic.

This Blueprint is set in stone

. Slide25

From Blueprint to Finished HouseIn the next 26 weeks, as we begin to study Torah, through the lens of the Tabernacle – these will be the following criteria, which we will learn:

LEARN

TO FOLLOW THE

CLOUD (Our Messiah)

LEARN

TO BE A

COMMUNITY (Here at Shiloh, and the greater community)

LEARN

TO DEPEND OF THEIR

SHEPHERD (Our Messiah)

LEARN

THE WAY OF

TESHUVA (repentance)

LEARN

THAT

YHVH WAS THEIR

KING (the pattern of approaching our Elohim and King)

TO

UNDESTAND THAT YHVH IS THE CENTER OF THE

CAMP (center of the camp and of our lives)

LEARN

THE HEBRAIC CONCEPT OF

SALVATION (the pattern of the daily services, and activities in the Tabernacle are blueprints of what is taking place in the Heavenly realm)Slide26
Slide27

The Ark of the Covenant

Exodus

25:

10

 “They shall

make an ark of acacia wood

. Two

cubits

and a half shall be its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. 11 You shall overlay it with pure gold, inside and outside shall you overlay it, and you shall make on it a molding of gold around it. 12 You shall cast four rings of gold for it and put them on its four feet, two rings on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. …. 17 “You shall make a mercy

seat

of pure gold…. 22 There

I will meet with you

, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel

.

In the next couple of weeks we will spend some more time discussing and connecting the Ark with a mobile throne of our King. Slide28

Ark and a mobile throneSlide29

The Ark of the CovenantJeremiah 3:

14

“Return, O backsliding children,” says the

Lord

; “for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

15

And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.

16

“Then it shall come to pass, when

you are multiplied and increased in the land in those days

,” says the

Lord

,

“that

they will say no more, ‘The ark of the covenant of the

Lord

.’ It shall not come to mind

, nor shall they remember it, nor shall they visit

it,

nor shall it be made anymore.

17

“At that time

Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the

Lord

,

and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the

Lord

, to Jerusalem. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts

.

Jeremiah alludes to the fact that the Ark will be rediscovered and placed in the Temple. However, once Messiah returns – Jerusalem, and the Temple itself will become the throne of YHVH – and

there won’t be a need for a mobile throne - Since Israel will move no more. Slide30

Table of the Bread of the FaceSlide31

Table of the Bread of the FaceExodus 25: 23 “You shall make a table of acacia wood. Two cubits shall be its length, a cubit its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. 24 You shall overlay it with pure gold and make a molding of gold around it. 25 And you shall make a rim around it a handbreadth

[4]

wide, and a molding of gold around the rim. 26 And you shall make for it four rings of gold, and fasten the rings to the four corners at its four legs. 27 Close to the frame the rings shall lie, as holders for the poles to carry the table. 28 You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold, and the table shall be carried with these. 29 And you shall make its plates and dishes for incense, and its flagons and bowls with which to pour drink offerings; you shall make them of pure gold. 30 And

you shall set the bread of the Presence on the table before me

regularly

. - some translations say “at all times”Slide32

Table of the Bread of the Face"These 12 loaves were baked in pans which gave them a specific form, and when done they rested on golden shelves upon this table. The loaves were replaced every Sabbath with new ones.

It is said that bread is the staff of life, and represents man's physical sustenance. This is certainly so, and it is important that G-d's blessing for goodness and bounty be found in the bread which we partake of... for without His munificent blessing, all of man's efforts would neither satisfy nor satiate

. (Temple Institute)Slide33

Table of the Bread of the FaceJohn 6:

32

Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you,

Moses did not give you the bread from heaven,

but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

33

For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

34

Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”

35

And Jesus said to them, “

I am the bread of life.

He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Every aspect of the Holy Place or HaKodesh are shadows of Messiah – for 6 days they were in the cloud, and on the seventh they went before YHVH. Slide34

The Golden MenorahSlide35

The Golden MenorahExodus 25: 31

“You shall make a lampstand of pure gold. The lampstand

shall be made of hammered work:

its base, its stem, its cups, its calyxes, and its flowers shall be of one piece with it. 32 And there shall be six branches going out of its sides, three branches of the lampstand out of one side of it and three branches of the lampstand out of the other side of it; 33 three cups made like almond blossoms, each with calyx and flower, on one branch, and three cups made like almond blossoms, each with calyx and flower, on the other branch—so for the six branches going out of the lampstand.

34

And on the lampstand itself there shall be four cups made like almond blossoms, with their calyxes and flowers, 35 and a calyx of one piece with it under each pair of the six branches going out from the lampstand. 36 Their calyxes and their branches shall be of one piece with it, the whole of it a single piece of hammered work of pure gold. 37 You shall make seven lamps for it. And the lamps shall be set up so as to give light on the space in front of it. 38 Its tongs and their trays shall be of pure gold. 39 It shall be made, with all these utensils, out of a talent

[5]

of pure gold. 40 And see that you make them after the pattern for them, which is being shown you on the mountain.Slide36

The Golden MenorahThe Menorah was formed from one piece of pure beaten gold weighing 3,000 shekels of silver (or nearly 100

lbs

). It was a highly decorative work that had seven branches, (with seven lamps), nine flower blooms, eleven fruits, and twenty two cups. According to the Talmud, the menorah measured eighteen

tefachim

(

ie

. Palms) in height (from the base to the start of the lamps), or roughly 5.25 feet. It is called the Lamp of Elohim in scripture:

1 Samuel 3:

3

and before

the lamp of

Elohim

went

out in the

tabernacle

of

the

Lord

where the ark of God

was,

and while Samuel was lying down,Slide37

The Golden MenorahThe lamps of the menorah were lit daily

, “from evening until morning,” starting from the central lamp (the

shamash

), and the moving right to left (Exodus 27: 21)

According to the Talmud (Shabbat 22b

), while all the lamps received the same amount of olive oil, the westernmost lamp (according to

Rashi

, the center lamp, due to its orientation)

miraculously never ran out of oil

, even though it was kindled first in the sequence. In other words, when Aaron would rekindle the lamps every evening, he found the Shamash still burning, so he simply refilled it with oil and trimmed its wick.

This miracle is also said to have occurred during the Temple period,

though it ab

ruptly

ended about 40 years before the destruction of the Second Temple

(c. 30 CE), after the death of Yeshua the Messiah, the true Servant and Branch of the Lord. As it is attested in the Talmud: “

our Rabbis taught

:

During the last forty years before the destruction of the Temple

the lot (‘For the Lord’) did not come up in the right hand; nor did the crimson-colored strap become white

; nor did the westernmost light shine

” (

Bronze Altar or MizbeiachExodus 27:1

“You shall make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits

long

and five cubits broad. The altar shall be square, and its height shall be three cubits. 2 And you shall make horns for it on its four corners; its horns shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with bronze.

You shall make pots for it to receive its ashes, and shovels and basins and forks and fire pans. You shall make all its utensils of bronze. 4 You shall also make for it a grating, a network of bronze, and on the net you shall make four bronze rings at its four corners. 5 And you shall set it under the ledge of the altar so that the net extends halfway down the altar. 6 And you shall make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with bronze. 7 And the poles shall be put through the rings, so that the poles are on the two sides of the altar when it is carried. 8 You shall make it hollow, with boards.

As it has been shown you on the mountain, so shall it be made

Kings 16:

14

He also brought the

bronze altar

which

was

before the

Lord

, from the front of the temple—from between the

new

altar and the house of the

Lord

—and put it on the north side of the

new

altar.

15

Then King Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, “On the great

new

altar

burn the morning burnt offering

, the

evening grain offering

, the king’s burnt sacrifice, and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, their grain offering, and their drink offerings; and sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. And the bronze altar shall be for me to inquire

by.

16

Thus did Urijah the priest, according to all that King Ahaz commanded.Slide41

Bronze Altar or MizbeiachThe altar is the very heart of the Holy Temple, for all of the Divine service is centered around it: all of the daily and additional offerings, as well as the individual and congregational sacrifices. All of the major ceremonies in the Temple also take place in the vicinity of the altar: the Passover sacrifice, the bringing of the

firstfruits

on

Shavuot

, and even the rejoicing with the

lulav

branches on

Sukkot

all take place around the altar.Slide42

Bronze Altar or MizbeiachThe exact location of the altar is extremely precise

, and has been established since time immemorial. The altar built by King David and King Solomon in the days of the First Temple, as well as the one built later in the era of the Second Temple,

were both erected on the very same place: for this was the very place from which Adam, the first man, was created

.

The

sages stated: "Man was created from the very spot which atones for him" (

B'reishith

Rabbah

14:6). Later, it was at this spot on Mount Moriah

that Abraham bound Isaac upon the altar that he had built

. Through that action, Abraham declared that this would be the place of God's Temple for all

time.

Temple InstituteSlide43

Bronze Altar or MizbeiachThe altar was built as a perfect square

and was quite large:

it reached

a height of 10

amot

(app. 5 meters) and its width was 32

amot

(app. 16 meters). It was constructed of two main parts:

the altar itself, and the ascent ramp

.

Both

were constructed of stones and earth

. On top of the altar at its four corners, there were hollow boxes which made small protrusions or "horns." These horns measured one

amah

square and 5 handbreadths high, each (or, app. 18" x 18" x 15"). The Bible states that

the altar may not be approached by way of steps

, since this would be considered unseemly and immodest behavior for this holy place: "Do not climb up to My altar with steps, so that your nakedness not be revealed on it" (Ex. 20:23

). (

Ezekiel Altar has steps)

Three

separate piles of wood burned atop the altar

. The largest of these arrangements was designated to receive all

the sacrifices

; the second provided the

coals for the incense altar

within the sanctuary, and the

third was the "perpetual fire"

which constantly burned on the altar, as the verse states (Lev. 6:5) "And a fire shall burn there on the altar constantly; it shall not be extinguished."

A large pile of ashes formed in the center of the altar from the remnants of these fires. God commanded that the coals be removed from here, and brought to another location outside of the Holy Temple which was known as the "place of ashes."Slide44

Bronze Altar or MizbeiachIn the building of the Tabernacle, the altar was built in conjunction with the rest of the Tabernacle. However, Moses built an altar before all of this took place:

Exodus 20:

24

An altar of earth you shall make for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I cause my name to be remembered I will come to you and bless you.

25

If you

make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stones

, for if you wield your tool on it you profane it.

26

And you shall not go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness be not exposed on it

.’

So an altar was built at the base of Mt. Sinai before the Tabernacle was put into place. Slide45

Bronze Altar or Mizbeiach2 Samuel 24:

18

And Gad came that day to David and said to him, “Go up, erect an altar to the

Lord

on the threshing floor of

Araunah

the

Jebusite

.”

19

So David, according to the word of Gad, went up as the

Lord

commanded.

….

25

And David built there an altar to the

Lord

, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the

Lord

heeded the prayers for the land, and the plague was withdrawn from Israel

.

The Ark of the Covenant, and all the items of the Tabernacle had not come up yet to Jerusalem. After David takes the city,

before the building of the Temple an altar is built. Slide46

Bronze Altar or MizbeiachEzra 3: 1

And when the seventh month had come, and the children of Israel

were

in the cities, the people gathered together as one man to Jerusalem.

Then

Jeshua

the son of

Jozadak

[

and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of

Shealtiel

and his brethren,

arose and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as

it is

written in the Law of Moses the man of God

.

Though fear

had come

upon them because of the people of those countries, they set the altar on its bases; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the

Lord

,

both

the morning and evening burnt offerings. Slide47

Bronze Altar or MizbeiachAs in the day of Moses, David, and Ezra, so to in our day an altar has to proceed the building of the Tabernacle, or Mikdash.

Now many will not understand why the sacrifices are being resumed. However, we must accept this is directly from our Elohim – of His intentions.

Ezekiel 40:

2

In the visions of God He took me into the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain; on it toward the south

was

something like the structure of a city.

He took me there, and behold,

there was

a man whose appearance

was

like the appearance of bronze. He had a line of flax and a measuring rod in his hand, and he stood in the gateway.

And the man said to me,

“Son of man, look with your eyes and hear with your ears, and fix your mind on everything I show you

; for you

were

brought here so that I might show

them

to you.

Declare

to the house of Israel everything you see

.” (this statement is a declaration to all of the Ten Tribes, and all of those grafted in, so that they will understand exactly why the altar, and the Temple, and the sacrifices will resume: Slide48

Bronze Altar or MizbeiachEzekiel 40

:

38

There was

a chamber and its entrance by the gateposts of the gateway, where they washed the burnt offering.

39

In the vestibule of the gateway

were

two tables on this side and two tables on that side, on which to

slay the burnt offering, the sin offering, and the trespass offering.

40

At the outer side of the

vestibule

, as one goes up to the entrance of the northern gateway,

were

two tables; and on the other side of the vestibule of the gateway

were

two tables.

41

Four tables

were

on this side and four tables on that side, by the side of the gateway, eight tables on

which they slaughtered

the sacrifices.

42

There were

also four tables of hewn stone for the burnt offering, one cubit and a half long, one cubit and a half wide, and one cubit high; on these

they laid the instruments with which they slaughtered the burnt offering and the sacrifice

.

43

Inside

were

hooks, a handbreadth wide, fastened all around; and the flesh of the sacrifices

was

on the tables.Slide49

ConclusionWe began today talking about the concept of Kedushah or Holiness. We saw how in the garden after Yeshua’s resurrection He told Mary Magdalene not to touch him, since He hadn’t ascended to the Heavenly Throne room.

At Mt. Sinai, we read how the presence of Yah, would not touch the 70 elders, Moses, Joshua or even the Priests.

As we will discuss in the next few portions, and tie in the

Millenial

reign – approaching our King and Messiah can only be done in a specific way or what Happened to

Nadab

, and

Abihu

will happen to us.

What the sacrifices will teach us – is how we can become Kedushah, and some day be in the presence of the Most High. Slide50

ConclusionEzekiel 44:

And the

Lord

said to me, “Son of man, mark well,

see with your eyes, and hear with your ears

all that I shall tell you concerning all the statutes of the temple of the

Lord

and all its laws. And

mark well the entrance to the temple

and all the exits from the sanctuary

.

And

say to the rebellious house,

[

a

]

to the house of Israel

, Thus says the Lord

God

: O house of Israel, enough of all your abominations,

in admitting foreigners, uncircumcised in heart and flesh, to be in my sanctuary, profaning my temple

, when you offer to me my food, the fat and the blood. You

[

b

]

have broken my covenant, in addition to all your abominations.

And

you have not kept charge of my holy things

, but you have set others to keep my charge for you in my sanctuary.
