July 16, 1861. DC During Wartime (1861-1865). Several army companies were ordered to DC before President-elect Lincoln arrived. Many residents (especially Southerners) left the city, boarding up their houses and taking all of their belongings. One of the first things we notice when we set foot in another person’s home, is how it smells. If they have pets within the home, then we will probably detect it, or if they have recently been cooking something that has left its scent, we will pick up on it. But there can be nothing worse than entering a home that doesn’t smell inviting, it can make us want to about turn and walk right back out the door! Two of the major culprits responsible for getting our walls grubby, are kids and pets. Kids will pick up crayons and scribble on the paintwork, or scuff their shoes along the edges, while pets may scratch at walls while they’re left home alone or simply rub against them when their coats are wet and muddy. While there is no magic solution to this problem, cleaning the walls regularly should help, and here are a few tips to help you achieve the clean walls that your home deserves: Guard Room. “The Guards are composed of a detachment of men who are to mount daily for the security of the garrison.” The Guard room is where the men comprising the guard would take their rest between shifts. A Guard mount would include an officer of the guard, a sergeant of the guard, at least one corporal of the guard, a drummer, and about 14 privates. . There are many benefits of keeping a clean home, and a good few of them are related to our health and wellbeing. Here are just a few of the health benefits associated with a neat, tidy and germ-free home: Department of the Army Donald G.
