Action . What one is doing most at any given time. May be successful or unsuccessful. . Basic Action . The essential action, over time, perceived by the audience of the event. It should be active, not passive. It's useful to perceive it in three parts (after Aristotle, although it need not be linear): beginning, middle and end. His experience in this field explains a lot of the tragic characters in his plays. While attending medical school, Chekhov wrote and publish comic stories which he used to support his family, in little time his gained him wide fame. He regularly contributed to St. Petersburg papers and even wrote 2 full novels. His novel, “The Shooting Party” even got translated into English. In 1888 Chekhov was awarded with the Pushkin Prize.
