- 16 July 2016

“Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is” – Ephesians 5:17

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he

delighteth

in his way”

Psalm 37:23Slide2

SCRIPTURAL CLARIFICATIONThere is a general will of God in marriage:A single person without a living partner (Mat. 19:4-9).A born-again believer who is living right (II Cor. 6:14).And there is a specific will of God too (Pro 18:22; 19:14):

It must fit within the general will.It is God

’s direction to you as a person – to fit you.It is ultimately YOUR choice (Romans 8:14).God’s direction is practical (John 10:27):It is based on your relationship with God.

It is God’s answer to sincere prayer.

It is consistent with the way God has led you in the past.Slide4

SINCERECONCERNSIs it not somehow

risky to choose by God’s will?It is rather risky to go your own way: Proverbs 14:12.

No man really knows another – not even with trial & error!God’s will brings you into His miracle;

i

t gives security.

Will God actually lead today? How? (

Proverbs

3:5-8)

He does by His Word, Spirit, voice, revelation or counsel.

Every child of God is entitled to it, but… Psalm 32:8,9.

Where is my own desire, will or choice then?

God does not erase your personality or preferences.

He gives you His best in your circumstances: Jer. 29:11Slide5

SEEMING CONTRADICTIONSWhat if the person declines (Luke 18:1-8)?It does not necessarily contradict, but tests the leading. Many

reasons could account for this. But pray earnestly.By ultimate rejection, God always has an alternative!

Suppose the individual backslides? No contradiction; it simply halts the procedure. There is always human duty to keep in the narrow way.

What if the

parents completely disapprove?

No contradiction; it is a challenge to pray about.

Ecclesiastes 10:4 gives us hope!

Go to the leadership for further help.

And if

I don

’t see, hear or feel anything at all

?

You may need help on how to hear from God.

Maybe you are making it too difficult for yourself!Slide6

SALIENTCONCLUSIONSThe true believer is one who does God’s will constantly.God guides generally and in marriage particularly. His word defines the orbit of our choice in marriage.

His direction defines the specific person for our lives.God knows even what we don’t know about ourselves!Man is still responsible in agreeing with God’s will, responding to His leading and managing the outcome.

If a door closes, God will open another (I Sam. 16:1).It is wise to seek counsel when you seem to get stuck.
